Complex EMF module problem need expert help

I've been chasing an issue on my wife's E70 35d. Build 3/09

Background: had a mechanical failure of the EMF module. Replaced unit and worked fine for a short period of time. Then began to have an intermittent warning of parking brake failure. Was easily corrected by disconnecting the EMF and reconnecting. Would then work for a result days. After 3 or 4 of these sessions, quit working altogether.

Figured it was a connection problem. Re-pinned the connector at the EMF. No change.

Checked all 3 fuses- all are good.

Cleared all codes with INPA

Ran DIS, can not read EMF - just get a communication error. Same with either module.

I'm stuck. Thoughts?

I'm getting the Parking Brake Malfunction problem too.

When you say EMF module is that the same thing as Park Brake Actuator part number 34436850289?

Check the wiring, especially the portion b/w connector and where it goes inside. You may need to unwrap it.

Yes, EMF is the actuator.

I re- pinned the entire connector including a new housing. Didn't change a thing.

No, not sorted yet. I'm down to testing the CAN signal- I hope to get to it this weekend. It's entirely possible I have an actuator failure on a new part. Unfortunately, you can't grab a replacement and return if not the problem.

I was able to solve my problem. I was able to find a bad wire on the connector at the parking brake actuator. At first look it did not seem as the wire was interrupted but it had a slight green oxidation. When I disconnected the plug from the actuator and tried to clean the oxidation I saw that the wire insulation has been damaged and with time the oxidation has cut through the wire, completing an open circuit.
Fixing the wire was not enough to get rid of the dash light and the fault code in the system. It took me a long time with BMW's RHEINGOLD software to reset it.

In my case I re-pinned the entire connector.

What was the challenge with the Rheingold that made eliminating the code an issue? What was the method? Maybe I just have a code I'm not addressing properly. If I clear, it immediately comes back. I'm using DIS and it says module not found.

I was not able to delete the fault code, keep clearing it with no result. Did you needed to manually disengage the parking brake? If so you have to reengage it by holding the brake button up for 15 seconds with the engine running. For me it was a combination of things I did and not sure which one did the trick.

I started with the parking brake reengagement, then did a procedure in Rheingold that you follow if the codes are still present after fixing a problem:
1. Delete code with ignition off (make sure the inginition is completely off, no dash or screen sould be lit up.)
2. Delete the code with ignition on
3. Turn off ignition, wait 5-10 seconds and turn it back on and delete again

Then went to the rear fuse panel and unplugged the black square relay that is in the middle of the panel, plugged it back on.

After that did the Rheingold procedure again and the parking malfunction light was off

I don't know if that procedure will work for DIS but it doesnt hurt to try.
