2007-2013 X5 Airbag Recall
BMW
Affected owners in Florida, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico have been prioritized in this recall and will receive parts first. If you live in these regions, make sure to contact your local BMW dealer immediately to schedule an appointment to have your front driver and/or passenger airbag replaced. BMW recommends that no one sit in the front passenger seat until that airbag is replaced. Do they also recommend that no one sit in the driver seat either?

About a week ago I talked to the dealership and apparently you can't make an appointment until June-July when they'll have the parts. I was told only the driver airbag is the problem on both my 2012 X5 and 2015 X1.

I know this sounds awful but I have already purchased a new airbag cover and steering wheel buttons, waiting for when my dealership has the airbag parts. My SA said they shouldn't have a problem replacing when they change the bag out.

Got the letter today for the X5 divers side airbag final remedy available.
Visited the dealer and they are ordering it, said it should be in around 2-3 weeks. Inquired about the passenger side airbag and if they had a estimate of when the final remedy would be available. The SA said that it's already been replaced on my X5 last October! What!!!:bsflag: We've had the X5 for almost 2 years now and have not had the bag replaced. I understand that they will need to pull the dash to replace. I would have certainly remembered this unless they did it overnight in my driveway!!! The original recall letter is dated July 2016. I told him this and he gave me a BS line of his service computer said it's been replaced but couldn't give me a dealer # that did the work. I'm calling BMW NA Monday to sort this out. Has anyone had the passenger airbag replaced??? |
That's ok, we have 2 BMW dealers in our city and I phoned the one and they said I didn't have any recalls on my 07 48i then phoned the other one and they said I need both done. Not sure what's going on with the one dealership but I'll go with the one that said I need both. They said I'll be waiting for a while for this recall as they can't get the parts

Had my drivers side replaced last week. They said there were no parts available but I called BMWNA and pitched a fit and they made it happen. Can't be too careful.

Hi guys 'n' gals.
Just became aware of the Takata airbag problem on E70s now, and started doing some research on it. The Aussie consumer protection site Choice.com.au has an article on the Takata airbag recall (all car manufacturers, not just BMW) and makes the following statement: Could my airbag be replaced with a new version of the recalled airbag? Defective Takata airbags have been replaced with identical defective Takata airbags, in some cases. This is being used as a temporary fix, swapping older airbags that have likely degraded with fresh iterations, in a move to lower the risk of a defective deployment. These airbags too will have to be recalled again. Car manufacturers including Toyota, Lexus, Subaru, Mazda, BMW and Honda have confirmed they made like-for-like replacements in a fraction of cars. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles confirms Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep cars will not need to be recalled again. Most other car companies chose not to share this information when we asked. REF: https://www.choice.com.au/transport/...stralia-230717 Maybe like-for-like replacement isn't an issue in the US? Based on the above Aussie article content, I would recommend asking the dealer at the time of the repair whether the replacement part has the same defect! Regards from Down Under. |
According to the service advisor at Hendrick BMW in Charlotte, airbags are ready as of three weeks ago, so is my fuel pump. Told me to schedule and stressed that I need to get a loaner. I think k I'll have the check my front suspension too so I know what to plan on my diy. Only $110 for the diag. Rotate and balance only $89.

Parts for my drivers side have been on order for about 3 weeks, along with the driveshaft recall parts as well. They still claim the passenger side doesn't have a remedy yet.
