So you'll just plug it yourself?

What is the oem slime? Is that like fix a flat?

I've wondered what you do to get rid of the run flats.

Mine need replacing and I don't really want to buy new RFT's

Are people going without a spare (don't want that either) and carrying fix a flat?

What about the pressure monitors? Will fix a flat kill them?

Not apples to apples, but I have run our '02 VetteVert without RFTs, since I re-tired it in ~2007 or 2008.

I carry a compressor, a decent plug kit and a set of vise grips/few poking tools, all of which fit in the trunk lower middle compartment, as in I don't know they are there...not a Slime fan.

Having plugged a few m'cycle tires while on the road, years ago and having 'practiced' on an old rimmed tire in the garage, I am pretty certain I could do it in a pinch, or simply call a road service.

Still have that replacement set of non RFTs on the Vette, though they are overdue to be replaced. Did a 13,000 mile 36 state cross country trip in that Vette a few summers ago, and never gave a 'flat' a concern. It does have very accurate TPMs that read out individually, so I gave that data an occasional look on the road.

Our '01 3.0 X also has non-RFTs and no TPMS, but it does have a jack and a doughnut spare, neither of which I have ever had to use in 15 years.

As for flats, when was the last time you had one, on the road? Probably not...
Most are discovered if one is aware, in the driveway, eyeballing a low tire.

And, non RFTs are imminently plug & patchable.

You just buy regular tires, then deal with what to do if you geta flat- just like any other car

Wait, it seems that everyone assumes that EVERY type of tire damage (flat tire) will be a simple puncture, and that a RFT will always let you drive home OR a plug or slime will always fix it.

Sometimes you actually MUST have a spare tire- a wheel, a tire.

Why cant you carry a spare? 95% of the cars in the world have spares...the other 4.99% dont have spares because they are already driving on it....

You can also get a spare tire and keep it in the garage.... Yes, someone needs to drive it to you OR you need a tow home- but it can be a solid way to protect against having to buy 'any tire that fits' ..

I got rid of the RFTs, bought a donut spare, bought a bottle jack, bought a compressor and slime. Didnt need it for the year that I have it and hope it stays this way.

I like the concept, ride, and saved space that my run flats offer. I carry a small compressor and a plug kit. In my lifetime experience of flats 100% of the time I've found slow leaks by looking at my tires while safely parked and it's always been a puncture from a nail or other road debris easily fixed. I once won a bet that I could see a 3 pound differential in air pressure in my tires. Its not that difficult if you look along the sidewall where the tire rests on the pavement.

I have not had to use a spare in over 40 years. I have only had slow leaks which required me to fill up the tire now and then. I love my RFT's and the extra storage storage space it leaves me. I do carry a small compressor.
