NBT I-drive retrofit for E70 with CCC and CIC
https://ytimg.googleusercontent.com/.../mqdefault.jpg
Hey everyone, I have been looking for months on ways to do a retrofit to the newest idrive-- currently have the CCC and it is awful. Figured I would share these guys with you. I have contacted them for a quote and will most likely do the retrofit. They have special pricing through Jan 12th. http://bimmerretrrofit.cmail20.com/t...39C523302FD418 **I am not affiliated with this company..just someone who is looking to do a nice upgrade on my daily and figured others may have interest. *** |
Make sure you get a USA unit or you won't get HDradio and XM. I don't think they sell USA units. But I could be wrong.
I did the retrofit on my e60 M5 |
They do have the USA units, luckily. Did you do your retrofit through them? How was your experience?
|
I sourced my own unit and used the other NBT coding guy.
Custom Retrofit Garage You will need to run mic wires, extend xm antenna, run 2ndary antenna wire, along with the retrofit harness if you get it. I made my own. Is it worth it? To me it was because it updates the electronics in a perfectly good car. the cost probably ends up about the same. |
Many people on M5board ended up just staying with CIC because NBT HUD will not work.
|
I completely agree that the tech upgrade is worth it, since my X is a great car and fully capable.
It is unfortunate to see that few people do the upgrade. Some easily spend 2k on wheels, but the tech remains ancient! |

Some people are utterly compelled to spend $2k on headlights, so other drivers at night will think they are in a newer car... On the electronics, will it make my podcasts sound better? ;) |
Valid point. :D I'm not sure what system you have running in your car, but I definitely have the archaic (and slow) CCC system-- and no native audio Bluetooth. Anything will sound better when I can stream it! ;)
Just surprised you don't see much of this type of upgrade. |
I used bimmer retrofit and it was a total nightmare. I would avoid them at all costs. I too have the CCC and was promised everything would work like oem. Once they had my money, and I ran into problems, they left me out to dry. They even backtracked on items they were supposed to send me like the CIC radio bezel. My volume knob doesn't work Without getting this.
|
If you have an AUX input, any $5 bluetooth dongle will work just fine.
IMHO CCC -> NBT is worth the effort/$, but CIC -> NBT isn't. Just not that much better to justify the costs. |

I do have a little bluetooth adapter on my CCC currently, but was looking for a fresher OS and quicker responding system. My rear camera and volume lag considerably.
Thanks for the input regarding bimmerretrofit. I did not pull the plug last week, because of other expenses that came up on my Audi :P I still want to do the upgrade, but not sure if I could source the correct NBT for US with Satellite and HD receiver. If anyone has any pointers or wants to do this on their vehicle as well. Let me know. Thanks~ |
Collect slowly on ebay. Get adapter from Adrian.
Or simply just go CIC which needs just coding Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk |

I wish I saw your issues before purchasing from bimmerretrofit. So far I can't overly complain as it appears I have received everything, but their customer service and especially documentation leaves a lot to be desired! |
You use the same mic but need new wiring from mic to NBT. The old wiring goes from mic to trunk. ..... Unless you reroute wiring from trunk to NBT
|
Okay, that makes sense and why my kit has that wiring in it.

What does coding entail? I have a cable and did some coding on my E70 before. Is the CIC coding diy-able? |

Hi Dangs,
Welcome to the forum... Don't know if you found it, but here is a very extensive thread that goes into a bunch of detail for the CCC to NBT journey... https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...t-journey.html This video is also VERY useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J55Tc3SdY_8 I didn't need to do any re-wiring of the OBD port. The folks at Bimmer Retrofit were awesome in helping me also! Hope this helps, John |
At first glance, I'm pretty sure you will have to modify the screen as the mounting points and bezel don't look like they will line up in the E70.

You don't need to modify the screen, but will need to design a custom bracket to hold the display.
There are lots of photos, and a few threads out there, for what others have done to make the display work with the E70 dash opening. Here is a link to a couple of photos at the bottom of the page: Installation BMW NBT Exx retrofit adapter on BMW E70 - BMW NBT Exx retrofit adapter Installations - Installations - Articles - CarSystems.com.ua I've attached a photo of my install too, FYI. You have to be a bit creative, but it looks awesome when completed. Cheers, John |
My bad, didn't look like my 10.2 so follow what John shows here.
Hey John - you happen to have some pics of the back and how you filled the hole? Also if you could advise on the mounting bracketry? Still have to get my EVO installed and the mounting of the 10.2 screen is what has been holding me up on the process. Thanks |

Hi,
Sorry I didn't take any photos of the bracket or cover that I made for the display. But basically it attaches at the hard-points where the screws for the old display were and also to the mounting points on the new display. It took a good amount of work to make it, and lots of time... I made a cover for the hole with a thin sheet of aluminum, bent it and then covered it with the outside cover from an old glovebox that I bought off eBay so it would match the dash on either side. Here are a couple of photos of what others have done to fill the hole in the dash... Thanks, John |
Has anyone ever put an F30 screen on e70 CCC casing?

Have you tried AliExpress for Android 10.25” for Bmw e70 .. choose the one with 8.1 and px6 processor .. and make sure it is compatible with CCC since your car has it.. cost around 500$ and 2 hours of your time .. and no coding needed.. and reversible .. do when I sell the car..
