Possibly Damaged FRM Module After Battery Boost...?

Sup guys,

My battery crapped out on me yesterday, i was able to get a boost to restart it. However, immediately after driving off i got "Lighting System! Stop vehicle" warning. Now the power window, power door locks, interior lights, door handle courtesy light and Angel lights no longer work. In addition, i get a driver side door open all the time even though it is properly closed.

I took it to two indy shops, both ran a diagnostic. The first indy shop stated the comfort/convenience module needed to be replaced. When scanning he got the following codes, i don't know what any of them mean (unfortunately he was unable to reset the codes);

E5D8 Message (Dimmer, 0x202) incorrect receiver CID (K-CAN)
E75E No Message (dimming), 202
E2D5 Incorrect message (dimming, 202)
E097 Message, dimmer

The second indy shop stated it was a bad FRM and recommended that i reach out to BMW as there is currently a recall as confirmed by fellow board member on this post; Lighting System! Stop vehicle - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums

However, when i ran my vehicle (2010 X5) vin against the BMW recall site, I did not qualify for the recall.

Has anyone experienced this issue? Any feedback/guidance would be greatly appreciated. Also i believe there is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on this issue. Anyone know where i can access it?

btw, I took my oe battery to Advance Auto to have it checked out. Turns out i needed a new battery. I replaced it with a Car Craft Platinum AGM Battery from Advance Auto. I installed and registered it myself using Carly but still getting the same issues listed above.

Thanks in advance!

Same situation happened to the wife Xmas eve. $750 later new FRM and programming. She got the door message/seatbelt message as well. Would automatically go into park unless she had her seatbelt on.

Didn't know about the extended warranty. Thanks as it looks like I am eligible for reimbursement!!:woot:

There is no recall for this problem. BMW has extended the warranty for this part. It will not show up as a recall. Only when a customer complains about this problem, it will be taken care of for free if the vehicle falls between the production dates.

It is a SW (flash corrupt) error and not a hardware problem. I can reprogram the FRM modules back to "new" condition, but after it has been installed on the car it has to be coded.

This should only be done if the vehicle no longer qualifies for the Warranty Extension, like cars that have salvaged titles. Otherwise BMW will replace the FRM and update the software for free.

Enter VIN and check here: BMW Owner Reimbursement Program

While at it, see if your vehicle applies for Drive Shaft reimbursement. Mine does.

Crawled under and took photos of driveshaft. It showed oil gunk (oil covered by dust/dirt).

Composed an email to local dealership SA, attached the photos and got initial approval for replacement. They will even provide a loaner!

Dropped off the vehicle to replace FRM today - in hopes they will find a gap and get it done by tomorrow (next available slot is Monday, actually).

Tech will inspect driveshaft while at it and officially approve replacement.

Then, on Monday, will get it replaced.

I'm guessing you have an eprom writer and a copy of the bin from from the frm.

Well, this is interesting subject. Although my X5 D has a salvage title i have received a letter for the extended warranty on the front driveshaft and another one for the airbag recall. Also a friend of mine received a full "customer satisfaction" treatment on his salvaged '12 X5 50I, no questions asked. So i guess there is no clear rule.
