DMTL Fault

Hi!

How often do these leak detectors go bad? I had this changed out about 2 years ago and the fault code is back again. The light comes on about once a week (I usually clear it right away) when my fuel gets to around 1/4 left in tank...

Also, my gas cap indicator comes on once in a while, but it goes away on its own...

I did a write up on this a while back.

In my case the issue was not the leak down pump but a hole in the fuel pump.
I suggest you check the fuel pump first.

This picture shows the melting connector. When this happens the pressure in the tank escapes and leak down test fails.

You need to know there is a Call To Service on fuel pump BMW is offering right now.

Here is the link to fuel pump replacements (it will show you how to get in there):
NOTE: Please do not cut the carpet, I made a mistake there. There is a way to unclip it (someone posted it).

Thanks, I'll check that out! The first time the leak pump was changed, the CEL never came back on.

I'll check the fuel pump connectors. Does the BMW service replace them due to the bad connectors or for another issue?

They replace the pump assemble because the connector gets so hot it melts a hole in the top of the pump.
