Replacement Headlight Lenses
The headlights on my 08 X5 are in pretty poor shape. I have tried polishing, but it seems there's a lot of crazing deep in the plastic.
I had similar issues on my E39 528i, and I was able to buy aftermarket headlight shells/lenses for about $180 for the pair. (These were from Schneiderman, but they don't sell an E70 version). Far cheaper than a new set of factory lights, and look great. Does anyone sell a replacement lens/housing for the E70? |
You should be able to sand the cracks out and then polish. Obviously to a certain limit.

~$200 for a pair on ebay, aliexpress.

Did you have to cut them out, or were you able to soften the sealant with heat?

Can you tell me the eBay seller you bought them from? Also, what was involved in changing the lenses? |
Sub'd. Bought a polishing kit, haven't tried it yet.

My headlights have AFS, so I wanted to steer away from heating the housings. I cut the lenses off with a dremel. Was a bit of a pain, but the results were good. I will look at my ebay history to find the seller I used. I'll also upload some pics of the process I went through.
If you guys do decide to go about that route, you can do some mods to your headlights as well. I added an "M" style eyeliner in the headlight and a brighter outer corona for an LCI-ish look. |
I'd also suggest cleaning and, if needed, replacing xenon reflectors and/or lenses.
For LCI headlights, if you're crafty, you can add second pair of projectors. |

I'm curious how you made the outer rings brighter as well. I've replaced my high beam bulbs with LEDs, which made the halo rings brighter and whiter, but the outer rings are a bit dim. |
