Misfire?
Hey guys I own a 2008 x5 4.8 with 96,500 miles today I drove to the grocery store and while idling in drive the car shifted into neutral and I got a AWD DSC and DBC and orange Brake light malfunction . I shut off the car and faults went away 30 mins later lights came on again and car shifted in neutral again shut off the car everything cleared and it was fine, I pulled into a drive thru and turned on the A/C and I can feel the car hesitating kind of sputtering sound I then noticed the engine light blinking then it stayed lit I came home connected the car to Rheingold and snapped a picture of the faults any information or anything similar with you guys let me know please I do see it says cylinder 2 .
By the way I serviced the trans 3 months ago because the oil pan filter housing was leaking so we replaced it and changed the oil there was no metal shavings or anything car drove amazing after that. I have not done the spark plugs or have any previous history of it being done https://preview.ibb.co/egEL4v/IMG_2321.jpg https://preview.ibb.co/k5VtPv/IMG_2323.jpg https://preview.ibb.co/dwZnjv/IMG_2324.jpg upload facebook pictures |
When receiving a flurry of errors like that from, its most certainly some electrical issue. I would first investigate your battery, then alternator.

If its an electrical problem, I'd say "anything is possible"
I have seen threads on here where it seems like the alternator never "turns on" on some engine starts. I vaguely remember someone mentioning some product they leave in the OBD2 port that will alert them if the battery is not charging while the engine is running. I mean... you've got like a dozen errors there that should be totally unrelated to a misfire. |
This is the thread i was thinking of: https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...tem-issue.html
I would attempt to monitor your voltage and check if its high/low if this occurs again. Of course, I could be totally throwing you off. I don't think I have seen the car just shift to neutral like that. Good luck. |
before this incident did you have a clean bill of health on rheingold?
Id suggest clearing the codes in Rheingold to see which are permanent codes and wich are just one offs that have been there for a while. Also track how often they come on. edit: just read u did clear the codes |

I noticed when this happens my passenger window rolls down halfway anyways if anyone has any ideas or tips let me know thanks

Have you checked your voltage? It does really seem like your electrical system has gone rogue.
