Transmission Pan help
 

2008 x5 4.8 96,000 miles serviced the transmission about 4 months ago new pan and intergrated filter and fluid , car felt like new after that about 2 weeks ago I noticed puddles of fluid on the ground in the same spot . I figured it was the power steering hose I changed but my ATF canister was reading full. I finally removed the transmission oil pan cover and quickly noticed the 4 bolts facing towards the front of the engine bay to be covered in oil and quickly noticed again the same transmission fluid leak. Do you guys think it may be the gasket or should I redo the same job all over again ...

by the way the sleeve ontop is not the problem thank god completely dry . Please check the photos I attached thansk guys for now she hasn't been Driven for About a week :((

1. That ATF tank under the hood is NOT for the ATF in the transmission! (So the trans can run dry and that tank will still show full.)

2. Hard to know precisely what is leaking- but it seems a safe bet that the pan re-install was messed up. Perhaps carefully check how it is seated? Flashlight, angled mirror. Then recheck torque on each bolt?

3. Otherwise 7 new liters ZF6, remove and re-seat. If you can buy a new gasket I would.

Did you torque them to the correct specs?

Did you follow the correct sequence when torquing them?
There’s an online pdf instructions by ZF. Find and follow it.

Did you check the bolts for tightness/ looseness?

You know the smell of ATF, so it was not oil pan, or where engine mounts to the transmission.


Sleeve seal is dry, that’s good news.
