Just realized, OP has 2013 X so probably has convenience feature that detects the presence of the key where mine does not. |

I’m assuming based on context that the OP has comfort access, as does my X5. Key never leaves your pocket, but when you park and hit the start/stop button the engine stops and the car stays in “accessory” position. A second tap turns everything off, which is effectively the same as removing the key. Or you just hit it once to stop engine, get out, and either lock it or it times out and turns off the accessories.
