+1, I used Duct Tape to remove the peeling paint - is almost 'bare' now and looks better.

At least the plastic underneath is black. On my daughters Z350 the plastic is white under the black soft touch. We had to rip all of her plastic trim out, sand it and paint it flat black. Looked 200% better.

THe Carbon Wrap is from Amazon, its decent stuff, easy to use with a hair dryer or heat gun. If you use a heat gun dont get to close. ;-)

If you plan to use the wrap it will be a lot easier if you can figure out how to get the one (per side) rocker switch out. It looked like they are a one time install at the factory and I didn't want to break them since you cant buy them so I did my best with them in place. Wrapping the parts would be WAY easier if those buttons came out though.

It will definitely remove paint that it is already 'loose' as well as adjacent areas.

I warmed up a little bit with a air dryer (this is optional) and managed to take ~80-85% of the paint. The remaining pieces were taken out a few days later using the same process, I did not want to use anything that could scratch the plastic underneath.

Will depend on how old/loose the paint is, if there are areas in good shape the paint will likely stay attached.

I use 1080 3M good quality vinyl materials from www.metrorestyling.com. I have been wrapping parts for few years now. Removing the airbag and controls are easy and doing so would bring clean results. Here's my work on my E90 and E46. I haven't started on my X yet and still in my queue and it's been overdue.
