2011 X5 35D P0112 Fault Code
I had SEL and a P0112 Fault Code - my own Google research wasn't very helpful in analyzing the probably defective part so I brought the vehicle to an independent shop. They quoted replacing the MAF (at an absurd price).
I was able to find the MAF from ecs tuning for less than $30, and replaced it in about 15 minutes - not sure why it was going to cost $250 in labor for the shop to replace it... Anyways, cleared the code with Torque, and good to go now. Very easy DIY. I replaced the air filter when the SEL came on and there was no visible debris or damage. |
On FCPEuro, there are 2 of them:
* BMW Mass Air Flow Sensor (335d X5) - Bosch 0281006147 - $190 * BMW Mass Air Flow Sensor (335d X5) - Genuine BMW 13628509725 - $26 What's the difference? I can't tell you. More on that code from Rheingold/ISTA-D Quote:

Thanks, Seattle - I didn't perform the "delete adaptations, air mass system" service functions, so let's hope that doesn't haunt me later :)
I can tell you that the OEM BMW part from ECS was labeled with all of the BMW and Bosch identifiers one would expect to see. The metal grating medium/film appeared a bit different (more robust) from the one I removed, but that just may be 70k+ miles of use. |
This sucks, is there a cause? Can they be cleaned? In just over two years prices have doubled and more than tripled.

The problem with mafs is that when they get fouled, it is usually a mixture of dirt and oil. (Exhaust resideut, other oily componebts).
This mixture will eventually form a hard 'oxide like' coating that will not be dissolved with solvents. Often times you can clean a maf and see some improvement, but if you do you should plan on replacing. Since youve only taken off the top layer. Be VERY VERY careful about Asian/3rd world counterfeits. Even down to copying the Bosch box and packaging. In fact, Bosch has a website on how to spot counterfeit plugs, mafs, components. It is a big problem. No name ebay vendors AND the guys we see on these forums. everyone is getting burned. |
@ard Thanks for the note and advice. Oddly BMW brand about 1/2 or less. Looking at FCP Euro for purchase, is there better option?
|
I went FCP Euro, great price, showed up early. Fixed immediately. The one on there was exactly the same except build date, probably OE as take off had 03-01-2011 date stamp. I am 2011 MY May build. Just turned 100k mi.

Nice. Well done.
