Left headlight not working...
Hi guys, 2007 X5 E70
I've searched and I've found people are mostly having problems with all the lights? I am just having a problem with the left headlight. Would it possibly be the footwell module? How do I test if it is? I plugged the left headlight into the right and it worked just fine... Thanks |
anyone know anything about this?
I know if I replace the Footwell Module, i'm going to have to re program it to my VIN but that seems like i shot in the dark.. how do I know that the module is the culprit. It seems like there is one module that controls both headlights and other lights too.. so If the left isnt working and i plug it in the right side, that means the headlight assembly with ballast and bulbs are all fine... So that means the "left side" of the module is bad? |

I had a look at the fuses, but i'm not sure which is the fuse for the problem.. If you could point out the location and which fuse, I'd appreciate it.

I Had the same problem, and it required replacing the HID control unit ( the special ballast dedicated to the HID).

Hi there just brought my first x5 thinking there was only a bulb out , I have exactly the same issue as you and replaced same parts , but now I’m stuck , did you end up fixing this fault , thank you
|
Also a 2007? UK spec? What motor? WHat type of headlights are on that?
I can grab a schematic for you. (Oh, usually when people sell cars they fix the easy stuff.... :) ) |
I also just replaced the right xenon headlight bulb in my X5 last night. Thought it would be an easy fix but that didn’t work so now I’m wondering what the problem is.
I will check the fuses and troubleshoot further tomorrow but what did you end up replacing to fix yours - the HID Module - if so, where is that located ? I am planning to troubleshoot by swapping the left headlight parts (ballast, bulb, etc) on the right side to see if those still parts work on the right side. I have a Foxwell 510 BMW Scanner so I’ll try to scan for headlight or module codes and see if my scanner will see a problem. |
I had a buddy go through this a couple of months back. He was getting a FRM code. After a lot of diagnosing with a multimeter and switching left for right, ect... He took it to the dealer, who could get the light to come on when hooked up to their computer, but not without. Service Manager said they could try a new FRM, but it would have to be coded to his particular X5 and not reversible, so he would get charged regardless if it worked or not. $600 IIRC.
He used my INSTA or INPA to go in and reset the FRM. He read somewhere online that once the FRM error is triggered and cleared 50 times, it needs to be reset directly. I'm trying to get a hold of him, as it wasn't just a clear code issue, it was more like he had to reset the module. Kinda of like doing a factory reset on a smartphone or computer. Problem solved. So, the new FRM would have fixed the problem, but was a very expensive solution. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |
On the ‘07 it’s most likely the footwell module. It’s a poor design. If there is a problem with the light, like bad ballast, wiring, etc the module will only reset the circuit 50 times then self destruct. It’s not possible to reset when this happens and the module must be replaced. The idiotic problem was fixed after 2009. On 2010+ models you can reset with ISTA. You can read the error as well. The reset function doesn’t do anything in the 2007 model, it’s pointless.
