ok.. the car is fine.. just a bad spark plug.. all hoses are fine.. O2 sensors are fine..
cat converter is good.. turbo is good..
however it gave a imp mode once after the new spark plug..cleared again.. and now all is ok..
is it possible a hidden intermittent failure.?? or should I just trial and error?

Sigh.

Your car is likely running rich due to an air fuel issue.

You are just replacing parts based on scanner codes - its the curse of idiot mechanics.

Do you want to know how to diagnose this? Or if it runs and doesnt limp and doesnt throw a CEL, you will just drive it into the ground?

Just a question guys.. can the muffler valve get stuck.. and if it does.. what are the symptoms.. because my Indy said.. it was stuck closed.. .. he removed it and cleaned it.. and now all the symptoms are gone.. could it be that simple.. it’s logical since this cable is supposed to open at high rpm.. and those are when the limp mode happens.. the cat converter is very clean..
should I tale the car? Or keep looking for future limp modes?

Those look like the mechanic is using a Mini look up to define the codes. I see different descriptors for BMWs.

Are you getting a CEL now with these two active codes?

Dr.M.Kassab 02-01-2019 02:29 AM

Yes.. I actually hooked up the scanner and hit record and went for a drive until it gave the cel.. and this is what came up..

what kind and model of scanner?

BMW will do the 'cutoff' thing when it detects a dangerously LEAN condition in a cylinder. This is where it has decided to not allow combustion to proceed as it may result in pre-detonation and cylinder destruction.

This can happen when you have air fuel issues, typically air leaks when the engine can no longer add enough fuel (fuel trim is maxed out).

These are hard to diagboses. Even on first world countries with highly trained mechanics.

I know you just want people to tell you what part to replace so you can go to the mechanic and say 'replace this'.

I have never seen the 'super knocking' description on a BMW motor, but I am hardly an expert

Dr.M.Kassab 02-02-2019 03:46 PM

The scanner is auto land or autologic.. I can’t remember which exactly..
anyway.. I took an appointment with a bmw expert .. he works at Bosch .. he has a software that Bmw uses called Bmw workstation.. it can test individual car components .. with your guys help .. I knew he was knowledgeable because in the phone he said it might either the fuel rail sensor or the fuel pump itself since the car has done just over 70,000 miles.. I’m taking the car to him on Tuesday morning.. hope all goes well..
