3.5d valve seal victims?
So, I've had my 09 for about a year. I did the full emissions delete with item removal. Wasn't till after this that I noticed the big cloud of blue smoke on startup. Were these engines victims of bad valve seals as well? Any possibility that its something else? I have 192000kms on it. Exhaust smells like oil to me. Can't smell anything out of the ordinary after the cloud clears. Any one done a seal job without head removal on one of these? Thanks

I did get a tune with the delete software. As for turbo seals, I figured that would cause constant oilconsumption. Stands to reason that the smoke would have to be generated in the combustion chamber on the cold start.

That said it may be possible to do it one cylinder at a time by setting the piston at TDC but even then the cowl would probably get in the way. |
Mine smokes a bit on cold startup, fully deleted with DUDMD tune. I assumed it was normal lol. It's a white-ish cloud, and it goes away very quickly as (what I assume to be) startup enrichment peters out. This is my first diesel, should it not be doing this? Mostly happens when it's cold out, but doesnt really happen on warm starts.

The oil leaks from the turbo seals and into the piping and intercooler. It's drawn into the engine on startup. Another likely source is oil residue buildup in the piping and intercooler due to excessive vapor and a poor recovery system.
