Weird no-start problem when warm--2011 X5 35i
Searched several forums, could not find info re: my particular issue:
Over the past week, my 2011 X5 6-cylinder has exhibited a weird, sort of random no-start condition when warm. After a drive and park, car will not start with key inserted and start button pushed. I do hear the pump clicking (once), but will not start. Several button-push attempts in the first 2 minutes yield no satisfaction. If I wait another minute or two, car starts right up as normal, as strong as you'd like. Weird. Battery is fresh. If memory serves, I think the cluster display may be showing an "!" in place of the "key" image. I've tried both my keys, problem occurs with both. At first I was thinking I've got a bad starter, and the bendix is just situated on a bad tooth. Now I'm not so sure--I think it's possibly an immobilizer issue--key is not being seen, then is IS seen. If this is caused by a bad battery/ground/starter--why does it start normally sometimes, and not so much when warm? But then WILL start--when warm??? Like I said, weird! Has anybody had something similar occur, and perhaps found a cure? I've got a third-party warranty that "should" cover this, should I bring it in for service, but I'd rather try to tackle it first myself. Seems I saw a Youtube video regarding a common BMW immobilizer issue, with a bad relay causing similar problems, but I can't find it now. Any assistance will be appreciated, Greg Austin TX |
