SOS Failure
 
Hi,

I have an issue with SOS call failure message coming up on my X5 E70 4.8i.

I posted another thread about my leaking panoramic sunroof which I believe is responsible but I want to put that to one side for the moment as I haven't seen any further leaking since I tilted/vented it.

I have been trying to get the radio working again by bypassing the TCU which didn't work.

My error codes are:

A670/present - FZD: Signal line, fogging sensor
E484/present - SMBF: K-CAN line fault
A1 A3/not present - CCC-ASK: Control-unit fault
E5C4/present - CID: K-CAN line fault
9CC5/present - FRM: Mirror heating, driver's side faulty
A559/not present - Instrument cluster: Supply was switched off (terminal 30g_f)
A554/present - KOMBI: No message (telephone)

I've tried putting in a new battery, checking fuses, using a MOST bypass etc but nothing works. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction?

I had a go at checking which modules had light coming from the MOST connector one by one and it looked to me like the TCU was failing so I tried a bypass but still the light didn’t get to the MULF. Then I played with disconnecting the DAB module and reconnecting and all the lights came on including to the TCU and the MULF. After a few seconds the lights go off again. Does this suggest a faulty DAB module?

I can’t bypass the DAB module as the bypass connector I have doesn’t fit the connector. I’m not sure where to get one that does or the part number.

You can remove most components at the most bus by repatching. The bus is behind the driver's side edge of the rear seat. The attached PDF shows how to add a most component to the bus. See step 9 forward. Follow the procedure in reverse to remove everything except the amp (I assume you have logic 7 amp). Use a flashlight shining down the fiber to identify where the fiber runs go.

Delete all paired devices from your I-drive. Then reconnect whatever you actively use. Sometimes this fixes the SOS failure malfunction you are talking about.

Thanks I’ll take look to see if I can find the hub. I think I’ve got the top hifi AMP.

The menus for the phone settings can’t be accessed they are greyed out. Would a failure in the TCU cause this? Or could the DAB module not passing on the signal to the TCU also cause this?

Cracked it. It was the DAB module. By passed it by tearing apart the bypass plug to make it fit and boom the sound is back. No SOS warning etc.

Does anyone know if a DAB module can be swapped out without coding? Do I need to be careful of version number etc? Can I use one from a Mini for example?

Nice work. I think it can be replaced without coding but not positive. I would replace with same version if possible. Dealt with this same stuff on my e60, replaced a couple components and always went same for same just to be safe.

Edit: also no harm in just leaving the bypass

Annoyingly the cheaper ones on eBay seem to be the ones with a slightly different product code. The HW looks the same though. I’ve since read one guide on a forum which was for retrofitting where it seemed to suggest there is a VIN number stored in the module.
