electrical draw
It's my turn to deal with an electrical draw and was wondering if anyone has had experience/success with using the battery sensor diagnostic info? It seems like it can report what might be waking up the car but maybe not what is keeping it awake? 2008 e70 3.0L. I also registered the battery as being replaced when I was playing around and was wondering if there is a way to unregister it again so the car doesn't think it's new?

I doubt you can unregister but the best bet to get an old battery to charge properly with accidental reset would be assignment of a lower AH. I only have foxwell and phone apps the software might have lower level tools

So I read up a bit on the energy management monitoring and it looks like it can report both which module is waking up the car and which might be keeping it awake as each module does send a "sleep bit" every so often to verify that it is asleep. I'm going to play around with INPA and DIS to see how well this works. I did start with old school draw test and initially was able to get the car asleep at which time the draw was only 9 ma! I had a hard time believing it and triple checked the meter and settings to verify it. Only was able to get that once so far though.

So I'm pretty sure I had a CAS (comfort access) code before I erased everything to start fresh. Last night my alarm went off by itself but no codes and I've read there can be issues with the driver's door handle keeping the car awake. Has anyone had experience with that ??

Last night alarm went off again and checked with DIS this morning and it is the front inside sonic sensor that is triggering so maybe not related to draw or door handle. I'll check further when I get more time and see if I can identify which module is keeping the car awake.

Not sure if e70 does this but e53 a second press when locking will disable the interior alarm sensors. You'd be able to lock the car without worry the sensor was going to trip

Yes, the E70 works the same way as E53 for that. There seems to a lot of posts about the interior sensor giving trouble on the E70.

So the car does not want to go to sleep with battery disconnected and ammeter installed so I drilled a hole in the negative bat terminal and put a screw with a wire and connector so that I can pull the battery cable after it goes to sleep and have the ammeter connected without loosing contact. It goes to sleep every time so far drawing about 15ma with alarm set. There is almost certainly a shunt built into the battery sensor so that the car can monitor current. I'm thinking my problem has been more to do with the alarm going off so I will disable the interior sensor with the second button push and maybe look into disabling it.
Also it seems to take a lot longer than 15 minutes for sleep but I haven't actually timed it after 20 min. |
