2008 x5 e70 interlock E faulty
hi BMW family
I have a 2008 x5 e70 that is stuck in park and the P light flashing towed the vehicle to the dealership they replaced the gear shifter Assy with a reconditioned unit that I supplied them with, and BMW have programmed it but concern still present the code is A82E INTERLOCK E FAULTY I also 2 days before did replace the park brake switch as old one was sticking could this be related or pure coincidence? can someone help me please! I'm based in Australia if it matters vehicle is still at the dealership, but they haven't had a chance to look into the car yet as they are pretty busy thank you |
When my interlock failed, i just could no longer use sport mode but it was intermittent at first and i could have a symptom like you describe if I had in sports mode when i stopped.
It would fail to push the gear suggestion knob to the right. You have to do it manually and you should be able to start. To test if interlock E is working (if you can), put in sport mode then go direct to park. If not broken it will push the gear request knob back to center. Parking brake anything interested m unrelated. Solve that separately. Replaced ≠ fixed. Follow the symptoms. If you ever heard the E interlock when you start the car it's already failed. –awr– Using Tapatalk VIP on iPhone |
thank you for your reply
my concern is it's still the same problem with the old shifter Assy and the used/reman unit it has been coded so else could it be? is there a gear shifter motor separate from the shifter Assy that could cause this? |

I didn't have to do any coding when i swapped the gear suggestion knob (i call it that because it's literal: you icky suggest what gear you want and if and when the computer approves you'll get that gear).
What scanner are you using? Foxwell will show all the switches in the gear m suggestion knob and the status of the e interlock. I was going to manually turn my e interlock to free and unplug the motor so i would have to manually pull out of park but it would still work. Are you able to move the handle left/right? When mine failed it would get stuck in sport and would act like you describe. I just had to manually move back to neutral before i could start. |
