Haven't heard from my dealer yet. If he comes back with ridiculous rates, I will do my best to deal and then walk as I predict many will in the first week.

My X5 came in last Friday. I hope whatever quality issue it is doesn't affect my vehicle. My X5 was scheduled for week 49 build but was completed early. I tracked it as best I could but the day it arrived the website had it at VPC and the 800# had it leaving on transport.

Was it a 4.8? My dealer indicated it seems to only be 4.8 production that halted. I was week 49.

EJCX5 12-11-2006 11:04 PM

It was a 4.8. Production began prior to week 49 but it was in 150 status for several weeks but then went through production very quickly and a week later was at the dealer. Any ideas about what is causing your production delay?

nickwild 12-12-2006 12:10 AM

Was told that production was sheduled to be finished on 12/3 and it was scheduled to be loaded on a train 12/5

Production status went to complete waiting to be released to the carrier on 12/1.

Now:

Website says "scheduled for production"
Automated says "waiting to be released to carrier"

BMW's customer reps:

Rep 1 Friday - I'm sorry, that is very strange- the production is complete and that it missed the scheduled ship date. Don't know why it would have a delay being released to carrier.

Rep 2 Monday - Well it now shows production is scheduled for 12/21. No I can't explain why it says that production is complete on the phone. We don't have access to that system here

Rep 3 Monday - Production is complete however there is an issue that is keeping your vehicle in the Quality check stage and preventing it from being released to a carrier. Sorry you were promised a dec delivery we don't commit to build or shipping dates. No I can't tell you an more details about what the issue might be

Dealer 1 Monday - BMW will not give us any information either but all of our 4.8 shipments are frozen in production. We have confirmed this is an issue with other dealers. Also mentioned great little tidbit - their 4.8 demo has rear manual window shades however they were notified they had to remove that option from all e70s until a future date TBD. (How bad is BMW at communicating)

Dealer 2 Monday - Yes we also had 4.8s scheduled to finish production in the last 2 weeks and they have not been released from the factory. No BMW will not give us any details.

Sounds like your vehicle is done but in limbo...I assume it'll take a few days to rail your X5 to the west coast once released. I hope your X5 gets to you before Xmas. That'd be a great gift!!! I'll have to check my rear doors to confirm that the manual window blinds were deleted. The brochure had a sticker placed in it communicating the change...very high tech:rofl: and yes an example of poor communication. I wanted to get the vehicle before they deleted any other features/options.

:dunno: I remember a few months ago when the 335i coupes first came out, they were delaying shipments to dealers b/c of some weird emmissions issues. Not saying that this is the same issue, but I think it happened at the same point in time that you are in for delivery.

I guess it's a decision time. If you can't get the delivery before year, you can't claim the section 179. That was the whole purpose to get this car :-)....Hopefully something exciting will happen within next couple of days and ball is rolling....

Can you not take a "paper delivery"?
