E70 Observations - with pictures

Week two with the X5 and have confirmed I picked the right vehicle. Gas mileage with he 3.0 is around 15 (computer displays 16.4). Accleration is great. Unless you're going to tow, the 3.0 is a good choice.

Here's a comparison of the X5 against a Z3. The X5 is Space Gray, The Z3 is Sterling Gray Metallic.

Some pictures of he appropriately named comfort seats. If you can order only one option, this is it. Yeah, the seats fold mid-center.

If you have the 3.0 and are thinking about swapping out the exhaust tips for the cool looking 4.8 tips, you'll have to have them cut off as they're welded on.

Here's a shot of the engine, including salt spray from last weeks snow.

Lots of storage room in the back. One observation: if you have the choice of a 3rd row seat or the spare, get the spare.

Massive disks and calipers!

I have a Breitling watch that looks like the model for the gauges:

Hate to clutter up the windshield, but EZ Pass and Valentine One needs to be there.

The BMW rubber mats really dress up the already beautiful interior.

nice pics!
Instead of comfort seats, I chose to get rear climate and heated rear seats, since those seats will almost always be occupied. Those sure look comfortable!
Do you have nav?

rufusdedog 02-04-2007 12:35 PM

Didn't get nav as at the time I read about some problems with nav and the screen (bars across the display). Now, after hearing all the positive comments about it, I wish I did order it. Ah, well, I'll move the Lowrance GPS into it.

Did you own a E53? Interested in your thoughts on:

1. Ride quality -- I've always found the E53 to be a little harsh over bumps, even the non-sport

2. Build quality -- every E53 I've owned (3 of them) has had rattles from the tailgate and sunroof.

3. Electronics -- do the rear parking mirrors work well, does assist/bluetooth work well?

4. Tires -- what are the stock tires you have? Since you have a spare I'm assuming you avoided the run flats.

5. Front driver/passenger room?

Thanks. It's great to here from someone who has driven one for a while. Test drives just don't give me enough of a long-term feel.

Some answers:

bigx5e, here's some answers. Hope they help.

Did you own a E53? - No.

Interested in your thoughts on:

1. Ride quality -- I've always found the E53 to be a little harsh over bumps, even the non-sport - Ride is not harsh at all.

2. Build quality -- every E53 I've owned (3 of them) has had rattles from the tailgate and sunroof. No rattles or squeaks yet. The cabin is silent even at highway speeds.

3. Electronics -- do the rear parking mirrors work well, does assist/bluetooth work well? Everything working well. Bluetooth sync was a breeze with my Motorola Razr V3.

4. Tires -- what are the stock tires you have? Since you have a spare I'm assuming you avoided the run flats. I have the standard run flats. I'm just as surprised that they put a spare in. Good, common sense item.

5. Front driver/passenger room? Nice and roomy. The cabin feels small but I think it's an illusion created by all the leather and wood.

Thanks. It's great to here from someone who has driven one for a while. Test drives just don't give me enough of a long-term feel.[/quote]
