Is "Adaptive Drive" necessary????

What dou you think?
Is adaptive drive a necessary option or can i leave it out of my configuration?
Is there anyone, who drove both and can compare it?
Here in Germany, i have to wait one more week for a test drive until
the official presentation.

I've experienced it on a 7 series and it's simply amazing. I'm guessing you'll love it so my recommendation is to do a comparison for yourself.

I guess the question is whether or not you want to maximize the vehicles handling abilities. If that's not a priority then no you don't need it.

I'm not missing it. The car handles excellently with out it. It(non sport E70) handles better than my non-sport E53.

How about the ride quality on 19"? Don't think I need adpative drive but here in the UK the Dynamic Pack includes Sport suspension which cannot be deleted. Concerned the ride might be harsh on poor quality UK roads. Hence why I am toying with the AD option but that's a lot of money just for this....

Dew it. If you're buying the latest BMW, I would shove the latest stuff in it. You can see NUMEROUS threads from people asking how to do, what were, OEM upgrades (such as: iPod adapters, satellite radio, Bluetooth....)

You don't need to take the dynamic pack. Choose the bits out of it that you want. There are three major downsides:

1st: The X5 is limited to 130mph without the dynamic pack (do you really need the extra top speed?)
2nd: You cannot get the 213 or 214 style wheels in the uk without dynamic pack
3rd: Residuals on non-dynamic pack X5s will probably be lower (although that is hard to predict this far out - especially with the M-sport package coming later this year!)

I have specced my X5 with only the options I wanted from the dynamic pack and saved myself about £400 - however it is easily possible to spend more than the cost of the dynamic pack if you take all of the options seperately. I also have not specified the adaptive drive - an additional 2300 GBP was just pushing my budget too far - although I seriously considered it.

For what its worth I have actually chosen the sports suspension myself but then I like the tighter feel of the sports suspension versus the standard on the E53 (I have had two previous BMWs without it and they wallowed!). To some extent it is a gamble having not driven the E70 yet!

StumpyPete,

Thanks for the advice. I do think the Dynamic Pkg is going to be must along with Media pkg for resale. Also pricing all the options separetely you save £1000 with the Dynamic pkg. I wanted to pick only some options bt given the savings it makes a lot of sense. Not so keen on the M Sport thing, a bit too much in many respects and I like the standard car look. Finally the more painted add ons the more likely the wife will get them damaged...
As far as the suspension goes, as you say it is all guess work at this point and by the time we can drive the car over here it will be too late for spec change. But I am leaning towards not picking AD as it is a lot of money.

I made the same call. I looked at the BMW residuals and factored in the AD. it made no difference to the residual.

Mind you for easier sale, the Media + Dynamic pkg will be must but as always the other stuff will be money wasted. Also I don't expect the waiting lists to be nearly as long as they were for the E53...
Nevertheless, I am planning to load up the E70 with pretty much everything ex AD, AS and 20"
