Trunk Space

anybody have a pic of the trunk space without the 3rd row seats? What's under the lid?

trueX5er 03-23-2007 12:08 AM

sure, I do.
Look in my X-Page, a link is in my signature. It is in there somewhere, but I would post it here but I'm not sure what the photo's image shack address.
Under there there is a small cubby, and then the spare tire and tools.

thank you, but it seems strange to have a spare tire when we have run flats

Run flats are good for about 100 miles when punctured and many tire stores don't stock them or have the expensive specialized equipment to change them. So if your more than 100 miles from home or you have to wait to get it replaced 100 miles is not very much so a spare tire can come in handy.

so let me get this straight. so if you ordered 3rd row seat, BMW just takes out the spare tire? now that would really suck if you were 100 miles away from home plus you got 7 passengers in your car...

X5FX 03-23-2007 12:01 PM

yes...but hopefully you arent more than 100 miles away from the nearest dealer.
BTW- BMW should require all dealers to stock replacement tires for this very reason.

That would be correct, the 3rd. row when folded down takes the space used to store the spare. You should check some local tire stores and see if they have the equipment (very expensive) to change run-flats and if they stock your tires. The equipment is the issue, they can get tires in a day or 2. A problem away from home could be serious especially in a rural area where run flats are rare. For me, until run-flats become more established I like the insurance of a spare, fortunately I don't need the 3rd. row.

That's a very good idea, I guess there's always the weekend issue but it would help.

I cant imagine BMW would leave all of us high and dry, you keep posting that nobody has this equipment...is this speculation on your part or do you know this as fact.

I would hope that the BMW dealers have this equipment and can handle our calls for service...if not BMW has a serious issue here by leaving us with no spare.
