sickyute, are the 20's staggered on the 4.8? Also did the fender flares come with it? I'm thinking of upgrading from 19 to 20 but not sure how it would look without the fender flares.

it still looks good without the flared fenders, had one at the dealer today with 21's and it still looked good.

Thanks. Got a quote from my tire guy, a set of 20's with Bridgestone RFT's and OEM wheels including a set of wheel sensors, $3700 out the door. I'm planning on keeping my 19's for winter skiing trips.

I thought the style 214 20" alloys with tires were 950$.. ?

Once you've selected Sport Package, the 20" 214's are an extra $950 if you choose those over the 19" 211's.

STALKER 10-03-2007 10:00 PM

IMO, totally worth the extra $950.

yeah the OEM 20's are staggered. i can't remember the width of the rim though. The rear tires are 315 and the front are 275 or 285.

i will post some new pics over the weekend.
It's been raining here in florida off and on every day and i've been busy with miami/broward carnival parties (i'm from the caribbean/west indies.. St. Lucia to be exact). So not much time to clean up in between rain, party + sleep.

i'll get around to it probably sooner than the weekend though.

I believe its a 10" rim up front and 11" out back.

pics were taken with the panoramic visor fully retracted so the 20% tint looks lighter than usual, mudguards, before and after visors.

after visors

i prefer the look with the visors.

PS: i broke the passenger front visor during installation. not really broken but 2 minor chips to the front and back edges of the visor. Well those minor chips were major enough that the visor would not sit right, causing the window to not open and close easily. sometimes it would close or open fully but then it will get stuck in either the up or down position. it would take about 3-5 mins of leaving it alone before it was operable again. i took the visor out and it's all good now. I'll just have to order a new passenger visor.

it's easy to do the rear windows but the front ones require some effort and being very careful. so take heed.

Do those visors just fit into the window troughs or are they the ones that require tape to the outside of the vehicle? What is the wind noise like? I had these on another vehicle and it caused more wind noise so I had to remove them.

You can find Morel car speakers here:

http://www.morelhifi.com/products/mob_3way_elate.html

My system has been built from the Elate series replacing the OEM speakers which were just the EU basic - sounding flat. Morel is a renowned Israeli maker of audiophile speakers for custom built home speakers and car audio.

The power comes from this Swedish baby:

http://www.dls.se/en/car/prod.html?produkt=en_6

It is DLS Ultimate A3 twin mono amp for the front speakers and I have a DLS Performance CA23 for the rear. No trunk subwoofer...
The system is built as stealth, nothing can be seen but heard...:)

how do yo think they would look like with an aerokit?

yourself? or the dealer did this?

That is "sickyute's" ride not mine. Hopefully he will chime in for you.

peterjaw 10-04-2007 10:50 PM

Sorry, Denalio, you are right. The car is sickyute's.

sickyute 10-05-2007 12:23 PM

the front and the rear fit into the window track.
the front uses no tape as it is a perfect fit and needs a little working to get in there.
the rear uses tape but still goes inside the window track for a nice tight fit.
they fit perfectly.

the wind noise is substantially LESS now. An added bonus for me as i was not expcting that. Before the visors i'd have to keep all 4 windows open to combat wind noise and too much wind through the front window. Now i can just keep the front window open without opening the back ones and it's fine.

The mudguards are BMW / OEM. They installed them at the dealer for free while the car was over there for some issue that i was having.

i think the mudguards will look great with the aero kit. That was my initial plan. After much thought and hitting a piece of foam on one of the road debris laden south florida road i decided against it cuz it would get chipped easilly. But i think it will look really good with the aero kit. It makes the car look more muscular i think, add that to the sexiness of the aero kit and i think u have a winner.

Just be sure u get the right ones for ur specific application.

The blue lights under the door handles are standard feature in Hong Kong... They are great when you park your car at night in dark places.

I wanted to thank everyone on this forum for answering all my questions prior to the purchase of my X5 (fully loaded minus active steering and satellite radio). Your comments have been invaluable!

Below are photos of my car. I enjoyed looking at others poster's cars prior to my purchase (really helped in the decision making process). I hope future X5 buyers would find my photos helpful too.

This photo is of the car stock:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/9483/stock1by7.jpg

The following photos are with the amber reflectors replaced by clear reflectors along with Huper Optik tint installed. (Not much difference in looks. I did 60 in the front and 40 on all the other windows that had tint on them from the rear climate package).

rh71 07-05-2008 05:55 PM

^ nice mtech, finally get to see it. ;) Still considering tints myself. Are you planning on going with the aero kit too?

mtech8 07-06-2008 12:39 AM

:) Yeah. I already purchased the aero kit from Morristown. I'm waiting to hit 1200 miles before bringing it into the body shop to get it installed (just in case they decide to take the car out for a quick test drive). I'll post more pictures as soon as that happens.

The tint is very nice. It's my first time trying out Huper Optiks. I love it. The heat reduction is amazing. Barely feel the 90 degree sunlight on my skin!

Looks very nice.

BTW, Check your front drivers side wheel well to see if there is the air duct in it. If there is, then your front lower drivers side grill is the wrong one.

Thanks, I will check it out?

Is this a common problem - having the wrong grill?

Just looked on realoem.com and it seems you only get the open grills when you are in a hot climate or have the increased towing capacity option.
link

I dont have the latter and defo dont live in the former :D

I am unaware as to whether it is a common problem. The dealers usually put the wrong one on if they are repairing the piece or if they remove it.

I do not have the towing package, but I do have the hot climate package. Just check the front driver wheel well for the vents, and that will determine which grill you should have.

This is how the X looks like after 2500 kilometers on the way from Germany to Russia. Pic was taken on half way. Had to wash it, the doors won't open because of the snow and ice on the running boards.

thanks heaps

I enquired with the dealer how much the aero kit would be and I nearly fell off my chair.. so i'm hunting for a set on ebay, wreckers, and other places hoping that one may come up for sale!

down here in aus it is very rare to see an x5 with the aero kit! I think i've only ever seen 1 on the road.

TorontoKhan 04-18-2011 09:07 PM

Calling BMW dealers for a quote requires certain precautions. If using a chair, make sure you get this one and use it as per the instructions in the manual before placing the call. Specially in Australia, I heard they take you all for a ride when it comes to Cars.

bren3085 04-18-2011 09:18 PM

Awesome horse X5 RUS! Would you please give me the details? What are the specs? Is it Black Sapphire? In the pictures it looks like your wheel arches are painted but they must be plastic because I see the running boards. Do you have the 19" wheels? Any problems with paint chipping? I'm going to place an order for X5 50i within the next month and I'm trying to decide if I go for the M Sport package with the painted wheel arches and risk paint chipping or stick with the plastic wheel arches of the "base" model. I may also decide to get the Sport Activity Package so I can get the larger wheels. Thanks in advance.

I've added 2 quarts in 15,000 miles. With one oil change at 10,000. So right at 5000 miles a quart. I don't consider that excessive for the BMW V8.

Have posted these on another thread, but in case people are browsing the pics thread, here they are again. Car just delivered from VPC, dealer still to prep, pick up next week, will post some more when I collect.

Yes, it has the factory rear sun glass, and also the factory fitted rear door blinds , which are pulled up.
I also added the rear blind accessory (rear qtr glass and tailgate) from BMW, with the sun glass and blinds it darkens the interior to our needs, plus it looks great :strut:

Order was placed last week of October, car got into dealers 7/12/11 and pick up 17/12/11. (7-8 wks total)

I used dealer in Edinburgh, Eastern BMW (main contact was Gregg Murry - Sales Manager), who have been superb from start to finish. I take it you are in the Shetlands, who did you use?

John Clark in Aberdeen, used them a lot over the last 10 years, mainly M3s and always been happy with them. I have spoken to Eastern a few times over the years but could never get any decent deals - used to be too much money in Edinburgh they didn't have to try very hard.

Thank You. The color is Space Gray Metallic, Platinum Gray is much darker, newer X5's come in Platinum Gray.

Hmmm, aero kit. Might have to consider that in the future, both of your X5s look good with them

Never knew that, I just bought wheels that I liked :D

Though they might be a little "too" black, maybe I should've gone with a polished (or even white) lip or something. Though it would look better with the plastic parts cleaned and detailed, instead of the black offset by the dull grey......

We used to have an Audi Q7 which we traded in yesterday for a brand new X5 40D with the Dynamic pack and media pack plus third row with 20 inch Y's and the top view camera. So far so good, although the ride (with the added sports suspension is much firmer than on our Q7 S line which had adaptive air suspension. Got a reasonable deal from the dealer although we bought one of their stock cars as it was specc'd how we wanted it, and in a great colour too (platinum grey). Here are a few pics taken between rain showers

We took the car for a 50 mile round trip down to the Gower peninsula so she got her first dirt! She is definitely a firmer ride than the Q7, but has some real urgency.

My brother in law's often failing X5 is the one behind - if it's electrical and essential for knowing how far you've gone or how much fuel you have left, it doesn't work!

^ awesome color with those sweet looking wheels.

You know, I just noticed the windshield wipers go the other way there!

5wany 01-30-2012 08:06 PM

Very nice  platinum grey is a good colour in SE spec with black arch moldings. Youll enjoy the X I''ve just turned 2k miles since last month and loved every mile.

Remember you have a 1250miles run in period so dont use the kick down or rev over 3500rpm - that way youll preserve the cars running gear / engine / turbo in the long run  Well done

Ninja 01-31-2012 07:15 AM

Took this pic over the weekend--kinda blurry from my phone camera. This is from Deep Ellum which is the artsy, electic, live music area near downtown. A mural of a Western cowboy scene.

Hammer 03-01-2012 02:20 AM

I took this photo as I approached my X5 after a couple of hours shopping. It was a spur of the minute phone photo (hence the blurred shot), but thought it would make for a good photo of the X5.
