4.8 on order....didn't test the 3.0, as I know it wouldn't be fast enough for my needs (errr..preference). I am coming from a Range Rover Sport Supercharged (and no, the RRS HSE wasn't even considered when I bought that truck either).

Also, I live in NYC, so can't have a sports car in addition to the SAV - yet (need another year of savings first!)...So in the meantime, the X IS my sports car!

Although I've only had our new 4.8 for 10 days, it's been long enough to know that this is a very special BMW. Our 2004 3.0 X5 was a great car as well, but it was under powered at times. The differences between our 04 and the 07 are like night and day. This X5 is more agile, compfortable, high tech, much more refined and a great ride. I cannot wait till we get 1200 miles on the odometer.

I like the power of the 4.8
Test drive 4.8i 2007 and I have ordered 4.8is 2008
I can not wait until my car arrive...

"The 4.8 has more power than the 3.0" I think that's a fairly commonly understood fact.. looks like a decision should be based on price and fuel consumption ..

I had a 3.0i E53 7 years ago. Nice car but underpowered in my opion. Nothing wrong with keeping it high in the revs but you don't want to do it all day long. When I sold that one I said I would never get it with the 3.0i again.

The 3.0 diesel ... excellent car. Plenty of torque, excellent fuel (diesel) economy and a nice sound once she warmed up.

Then why go for the 4.8i? Simple: that engine matches best with the image of the car. Great sound (should even be better with the Eisenmann), plenty of torque, power is available whenever you need it and hey ... you only live once so why not go for the "Full monty". Not to mention that if the All Gore's of this world get it their way, SUV/SAV's may be a thing of the past before you know it.

Voila ... there you have it.:driver:

Although this poll is not exactly scientific, it seems people on this forum favor the 4.8i 2 to 1. While the number of 3.0s delivered by BMW thus far favors the 3.0 2 to 1. Not sure what it says other than forum members are willing to pay for more power!

I think it means says that while people prefer the 4.8, it's more feasible and practical to purchase the 3.0 for many. I like Big-Chested Supermodel Nymphos that own liquor stores, but I did not marry one.
