Floor mat - rubber or fabric
 

The dealer threw in mats. Look nice, but the one for the driver area doesn't stay in place well, and is also looking a bit ratty already as the fabric balls up.

I'm surprised there is no clip, the last several cars I have had (no BMW's) did.

While perhaps not quite as pretty, how about the heavy rubber mats. Do they stay in place better?

my BMW stock mats stay just fine w/o the clips. Seems like they've got some kind of velcro type bottom side that keeps them still. I agree however that their quality is totally lacking and borderline unacceptable for a BMW.. I can see me replacing them at yearly intervals or more.

I'm looking at the rubber mats - especially for the winter months. There seem to be two choices: Liners or mats. Mats look like they will handle snow/slush covered boots much better

BMW has OEM winter mats, a vendor here sells them.

I flipped mine over and there is some velcro-like circular pad there, but it doesn't do anything.

MD11F -- what do yours stick TO? Just the regular flooring, or is there some opposite-polarity velcro on the floor?

Mine will slide freely around, just take your hand and move it. Almost no resistance at all.

you must have different mats that I do.. the ones I have (BMW) are sort of foam on the back side and they tend to stick VERY WELL to the stock carpet in the car.. I don't have any problems with them slipping, but then it's brand new.. maybe after a few months I'll notice something..

The light grey is some kind of foam, the circular pad looks like the loop side of velcro, but there's clearly nothing on the floor to stick to the black pad. The overall mat slides around pretty freely on the carbeted floor.

One is to note that the floor carpet (between the rolled edge and the black plastic) shows a relatively small pile carpet similar to the mat itself. It looks nice, but provides no significant texture for the foam or velcro to catch.

The other is the CHEAP result of using the mat for 4 weeks. Just 4 weeks and the pile is tearing up and coming off, notice it showing over the rolled edge. Yes, the mat needs a vacuum, but that's not my point -- what you see is the mat coming apart not (just) dirt.

Cheap and ugly.

Anyway... does this look like your mat that doesn't slide around?

you should have received the other part which needs to be installed, it requires drilling. They should be in a small plastic bag in the rear storage area. They are round plastic disk with a velcro like top, you simply drill a hole and push them into your carpet,

When someone first buys their car it is necessary to install rubber mats on top of the stock fabric ones. This will almost eliminate all smells that would normally absorb and stick to the fabric.
