Dynamic Drive malfunction error

Hey guys, I have an American BMW X5 3.0si new that I got over here too Russia, its still fresh hasnt even done 1000Km yett.

On the weekends I hoped into the X5 to take it for a little spin to my friends house, the roads are quite bad in Moscow in certain places, I was in that certain bad place.

Well to cut it short the bumpy road made my car give me a message something like: Dynamic Driver melfunction, take it to your dealer bla bla bla

Once I got to his house I turned it off, turned in back on in say 6 min and the message disappered... The question is what is all this message about and is it dangrous tht it lit up, I was driving slow say 40-60 Km no harsh manuvering really....

I'm sure it was just a quirk that occurred because of the nature of your roads there.. on the other hand it could be a software bug in the dynamic drive. I don't recall reading anything else about it here in the past month, but you could contact the dealer and see if there is a software patch. If the error reset itself however, I doubt it was a real problem.

ive gotten this 4 times. i hit a pothole - always with my front drivers side wheel - and i get that message. i pull over, turn off the engine, restart and its fine. pretty lame and the dealer cant do anything. they look at it and all is well....

Yeah I hit a few speed bumps without slowing down, I got used to my Toyota Land Cruiser that I dont slow down on speed bumps and so on.

Maybe it was because I hit the speed bumps without slowing down that drove him crazy.

Im thinking maybe I should of goten my self the Mercedes-Benz ML350 instead, last BMW I had was the 90's the 735 it was a good car, but now cause of all these electronics the cars go crazy...

The ML is even LESS of an off road vehicle.. if you wanted an of roader, you should have gotten a Range Rover.

If there is one brand that has reliability issues, then Range Rover is it. Off road prowess is without equal, but if you are always in the shop, then it doesn't do you much good anyway. By the comments on this board, it appears BMW is no different. At least with BMW, you don't have to worry about losing as much in depreciation over the first 3-5 years. Look at the resale values of the range rover after 2 years:-(

hey Woody, this board is anecdote.. THIS is a bit closer to reality.

It appears to be better than "average". Who knows how much better or worse it would have been had they only considered the X5 or X3 and not the whole brand?? Look at what happened to Mercedes ratings a few years back when the ML quality issues took the whole brand down in the ratings.

true, but I think in the BMW case, the 7 series was their ML.. Eitherway, not a bad showing for an "unreliable" German brand. Acura and Nissan didn't even do as well.

Very true...Especially being right underneath Toyota. Speaking of the 7 series, one of my clients has(had) an '03 7 Series. He came home from work about , parked his car in the driveway, jumped into his wife's Mercedes and they both drove off to an appointment. The neighbors called 10 minutes later to say that his BMW was on fire!! Lucky thing was, he always parks in the garage, except for that day. BWM sent a team of investigators down to see why it melted to the driveway.
