Anyone that got or is getting an '08 thinking that all the bugs from the '07 would be fixed may be right... unfortunately '08 will more than probably have more new bugs ... so the cycle begins...

For those who may have a similar issue with their new '08 X5, my Dealer Service Manager now states that this is what is causing the malfuntion messages with my new X5 - "The vehicle needs an SZL which is a sensor in relation to the DSC and ABS systems. We are certain that is the problem."

Separately, BMW NA has indicated that they will build me a new car to replace this one due to the issues. Have to say that they really stepped up to the plate on this matter.

SZL is steering angle sensor, not really a big problem. I'm surprise it took them this long. Are you going to take them up on their offer? You've really only had one small problem so far.

:wow: Wow! I can't belive BMW NA really stepped up and offered to fix and resell a car that suffered an SZL failure. Very nice move.

Good news for you! When will you get it. Do you have to wait several weeks?

The SZL was blamed for intermittent problems with my rear view camera too.

In terms of accepting their offer of replacing my car they just simply emailed me to state this is what they were doing and had already placed a new vehicle on order. This is before the diagnosis was given to me. Don't know any more as to delivery, etc. Frankly all I want is a working vehicle as I can't wait to share the enjoyment in driving the X5 that I have read on this site!

Keep us posted. This is a new one...

I am impressed every time I hear a story about BMW NA service and support. They really do understand that it's just as important to keep a customer as find a new one.
