Questions about head light and high beam
Hi guys,
May be these are stupid questions, but I am new to BMW. Q1: When I switch to high-beam, why the 2 inner lights remain unchange? I still see the rings only. I mean, to me, when I switch on the high-beam, all 4 lights should be very bright. At least all my previous cars do so. Q2: When I switch on/off the high-beam, I hear some sort of mechnical sound from the head light module, what is it? Q3: I don't have Adaptive Light Control option which let the head lights "turn" according to the steering wheel, is it possible to adjust the direction of my head light? How? Q4: 2 of the high beams make a cross in about 60~80 meters (200 ~ 240 feet), is it possible to make them "parallel"? Thank you very much for any input. ps. 1. I have Xenon head lights. 2. My car is of 2007 version. |
Aren't the Xenon Lights on the X5 bi-xenon. Thus, the Low Beams AND High beams both come from the outer xenon light. I believe there is a flap in the light that adjusts the brightness. This may be the sound you hear when switching between low and high beam.

So does that mean the inner lights aren't functional / are for show / brand continuity ?

The inner lights are used for the Daytime Running Lights.
For guide to all of the lighting features of the E70 X5, see the following thread: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e70-forum/...ighting+system |

Correct. I believe the inner lights are also used for the head light "flash" function, since Xenons are slow to react turning on, and it shortens their life as well. |

btw, this is the first car i've had that lets you use the high beams in combination with fog lights at the same time.

Different countries may have different regulations regarding the use of bi-xenons. I don't recall seeing a bi-xenon BMW in China. There was a 523Li that had xenons, but the inner headlight (high beam) was constantly on, not just flash-to-pass. |
