The Joy is Slipping Away

Parked the car at the ATM today. Got back into the car, started it up, released the parking brake, and put it in reverse. Parking brake failure. So I released the brake per the manual. I can drive now - but the f..king parking brake is gone. Has to be reset by the dealer. What gives when they design a vehicle and actually build in a tool and release mechanism knowing there's going to be parking brake failures? And to top it off, the dealer has to get involved to reset the fricking thing? I'm ranting, but it's another trip to the dealer (I got a break -no pun intended - only a week from now). Dealer says it'll take a couple of hours to fix. So, when this beast is out of warranty, and this happens, it'll be around $300 bucks to fix. And again, since they actually built in a release and installed a tool in the trunk, the odds are good this is going to happen again and again. Think I'll get the extended warranty while I'm at the dealer. :cussing:

software issue - hopefully they'll fix this for good in future firmware if not already.

BTW, when you say parking brake, this is the little lever that you have to manually pull upward, correct? Right above the auto-hold?

Hey it's a hand brake....... Some guy ran a red light within a month of new ownership and did $5000.00 in damage to my ride. Now that can kill your joy. Now it looks brand new. Like it never happend.

Cheer up it's just a hand brake.......

rh71, yup, it's the little lever. Is this software related? If so, does anyone know if a TSB has been issued? Seems to me like a hardware design fault.

Quicksilver, you're right, it's just the brake, but damn, this is the 7th service trip to the dealer in a year for various nit noid problems.

There, I feel better now.:-)

Sometimes when you open the door without switching off the engine and still in drive you get a warning message. Once when I got back in the car after that warning I had the parking break failure.

I tried everything but releasing the breaks and then gave up left the car walked to another store, by the time I came back 10 minutes later and started it...no errors/fault this happend 2 months ago.

all of these issues are relative, it doesn't have to be 5k worth of damage to be a killjoy :(

Interestingly enough, mine stuck too just this past weekend. The dealer said they had another E70 in for the same problem, same weekend. My SA said a software update will be out soon, so hopefully it'll fix that.

might be nothing, or maybe i need to lose a pound or two, but today i started mine in the morning as i usually do with the door open and me half in the truck. came back out after a few minutes and jumped in, and as i pulled the door closed i noticed the truck rolled forward some. i think my e-brake slipped. anyone else experience this?

This begs the question I've had for awhile: Why no mechanical handbrake? Is this along the same lines of "no dipstick"?

Well I second you on the manual handbrake, but I really just only leave it in park.
Seems hotter climates do have the dipstick - we do.

Cheers,
