I-Drive Reboot, entertainment source changes, voice command activates etc

I went to pick a friend at the airport, on the way home I was listening to a CD and next thing it switched to AUX, then FM and then the Weather Band. Thinking I might have done something I switched it back to the CD.

Few minutes later, I-drive reboots and brings up the accept menu. OK. My friend starts to snigger at this point. We continue driving and next thing the voice command cuts in asking to repeat the command???

Not happy with dealing with me, the I-drive display switches off, the CD continues to play this time. Anybody had this kinda crazy experience?

well i had a similar problem. My CD was playing but the screen suddenly went off. I had to pull over, killed the engine, waited for about 5 minute, started the truck and it came back.

are you still having these issues after a cold start?

Thanks jlforlife, I tried a 'reboot' yesterday at a light but it started again. But good news is after parking it overnight the symptoms seem to have gone away after 1 hr of driving around today....

Is the i-drive running on MS Vista ?

I am having a very similar problem with my 07 e70. In my case it happens when the radio is on and it starts changing channels and then the voice command guy starts telling me how sorry he is.

It been in the shop several times and even the guys in Germany are scratching their heads.

Isn't i-Drive Windows-based?

Just got of the phone with BMW and they think it could related to my Bluetooth cell phone not being "BMW approved." There is a website wireless4bmw.com that lists the "compatible" phones. Check it and let me know if you phone is on the list.

For those having iDrive issues, remember the OBC retains info in this regard. Our e60 had to be reprogramed 3 times before they found the offending part. No problems since. Just note the issues in writing then keep going back and let the dealer do their job.

My old E70 3.0d 2007 model did that also as well as the steering wheel forgetting its position which was a known fault. But my new 3.0sd 2008 model is fine. You might want to check your software version as it might need updating.

Appreciate the info but as i mentioned "Our e60 had to be reprogramed 3 times before they found the offending part. No problems since."
