iDrive unstable..
 

So I took the X5 in to the Stealership for a simple repair of the back up camera..

I get it back 5 hours later with a functioning camera, but my Navigation kept crashing and stating that there is a disc read error with the DVD.

So.. I take it back for that, and 2 days later, and a LONG software download later, AND a new camera later (why they replaced the camera I don't know!).. now my iDrive is re-booting on me about ever 5-10 minutes..

Anyone have anything remotely like this happen to them? Any ideas?

no...mine has been fine since the camera was replaced. Give it back, and tell them not to return it until they are entirely sure it has been fixed.

Problem is I got stuck with a Toyota Corola the first time.. So I told them, until you get an X5 loaner to give me, I'm not returning... and I followed up with I expect it done right this time.. I sometimes wonder if they even test this stuff before they give it to you..

yeah go again and be nice to them. They don't know sometimes exactly what's wrong with it. hopefully being nice will encourage them to fix it right instead of replace and reset everything and simply return it to you.

Corolla? Ouch. Demand a BMW, even a 328i would be fine. Who knows why they don't check their work, they assume that if they replace one thing, it will be all ok.

I was just talking to a good friend who just got back from Vancouver.. it's amazing, but you Canadians all seem to be so laid back and nice.. it's not in our blood here.. we get angry and have a short temper. I'll take your advise and see if it helps..

TureX5er, I agree... and it's why I told them to wait until they get a X5 loaner back (they have a handful that are out) before I bring it back... there are 8000lb monster SUV's all over the place here in AZ.. one needs some sort of defense from the crazy housewives on their cellphones! :yikes:

The dealers seem to be slacking lately. I never leave the dealer anymore w/o the service rep sitting in the car with me to go over every detail I asked to fix...which is a shame.

I hate the "couldnt duplicate customer complaint" stock reply that seems to be more common every day. I now ask if that statement is on my receipt before I even pickup the vehicle.

If they spent as much time checking out your vehicle before delivery as they do explaining that anything less than 5 stars is a failing grade, they might actually get 5 stars.

I swear, the two times I went in to fix this issue (having literally only driven off the lot for 5 minutes the first time) they HOVERD over me while I filled out their internal survey which showed that 1-4 was a fail and 5 was the pass.. I was SO tempted to give them 2's but I felt as though I was being pressured! :(

When i go in to complain about the X (i've gone in a couple of times to get wheel alignment, transmission software and idrive upgraded and also they did a recall cable fix, all under warrantee) my dealer gave me 328i's everytime. I mean they are tiny but kind of fun to drive as well (feels so light and smooth, reminds me of driving a go-cart) :) I don't mind the 328i for a couple of days.
