Stolen
I am a new 2008 x5 owner and am wondering if anyone has had any issues with thefts, of either parts (wheels, lights, etc.) or the vehicle. Also any tips for preventing this (wheel locks etc) would be greatly appreciated.
|
My X5 came with wheel locks. No issues with any theft but I keep mine in a garage.
|
im new here :) i keep mine in a garage too.
|
I keep my baby outside all year. i mean its a gated lot but yeah mine came with security wheel nuts (i think, may be not ;) ) but I feel safe and secure. I got the 20" as well.

Just make sure you park your car in a safe neighborhood. The wheel locks should act as a deterrent for getting your wheels stolen, though I know they can be removed with some maneuvering.

Some E53 X5 owners have done the "Keyhole delete mod" as a deterrent, which replaces the keyhole on drivers door with the cover like on passenger door which is a UK X5 part #, but can be easily ordered in US. Not sure if any E70 owners have done that. |
with the keyhole delete mod, does that mean there would be absolutely no way of getting into the car if your battery died?
|
isn't this mod an overkill? a thief can already break the window....

so I'm supposed to learn of this secret after it's all done?
Hell I can't even find a good source for keyhole delete. |
Info is all here, just have to search. Its just easier for premium members.
I had to get mine painted as they did not have the color. You can ask these guys if they have for E70. http://www.bimmian.com/KHC/X5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbZBOopZEqo |
^ thx, can't say I've actually heard of the screwdriver method but now I'm concerned enough to look further into this... if they only had E70 covers.
|
What if you have the exterior lights under the door handle and CS sensor the lock the door in the assembly?? would it still work?
|
yes.

Just don't be parking the X in South Central L.A., East L.A. or Pacoima and you'll be fine
|
I didn't have anything stolen (knock on wood) but someone tried to mess with my wheels. I came back and found that the wheel locks in one tire were all scratched and I had to bring it in to the dealer to remove since I could not take them off

THIS IS NOT YOUR BASIC GM COME ON NOW YOU JUST DONT BREAK THE IGNITION AND STICK A FORK IN IT AND DRIVE OFF THERES MORE TO IT FIRST OFF IF YOU BREAK THE IGNITION ON A BMW THE CAR DISABLES ITSELF.IF YOU MOVE YOUR CAR HARD ENOUGH YOUR ALARM WILL SOUND HAS TO BE HIT HARD THO.REALLY ONLY WAY TO STEAL SUCH A GEM SOMEONE WITH A TOW TRUCK AS FOR WHEELS WHEEL LOCKS
|
i'v heard some BNE thieves stole an M6 right from a garage while people (the owners) slept upstairs, at a house here in Calgary. I mean if you wanna steal cars, you will steal cars.
with all the M technology, BMW assist, stolen tracking etc, they never found it, well so far anyway (its been a month) A good insurance policy is your friend  |
