First, let me say that it looks AMAZING with the arches and the rims. Best I've seen yet. Congrats. Second, are the arches really necessary from a functional standpoint, or just purely for looks?

Yes they are necessary as the offset on the sport wheels are 20 ET back and 37 ET front, the standard wheels are 46 ET front and back. This means the wheels will extend out by 45mm back and 15mm front per side.

You can put 19" 20" wheels with a maximum offset of 48 ET front and 53 ET back without putting on the arches. This is a BMW factory option.

Personaly i like the wider look the sport wheels and arches give, plus wider wheelbase means better handling.

Looks great.

Great post - should be a sticky under 'Body, Wheels & Styling'

I'm not following you. The offset has to do with the wheel to the hub. Are you saying that the larger wheels will actually rub against the arches and that is why you need to install larger arches? Or is it just aesthetics since otherwise the wheel will stick out farther then the bodywork and end up looking stupid?

Yes the wheels will stick out further then the bodywork and end up looking stupid, they will also spray dirt and grit up the side of the bodywork. There is plenty of clearance round the arches as they sit quite high allowing for the larger travel needed for 4X4's.

Just do a search for RIVETER FOR PLASTIC RIVETS that way you will find one more local to yourself.

Guys...I've got this one on the way right now from Napa and a fellow forum member says it is the one he used and will work. It looks to be a little cheaper than the ebay one and based on the size rivets the website says it can handle, it should work with these BMW rivets. Mine's arriving Friday so if you wanna wait until then I can let you know...
