I paid $42 CDN for the repair, including balancing.

seems like a pretty good deal. Which tire store did you go to??

Has anyone tried using Tire Repair Kit, like sealant with air compressor?

or the can tire sealant and air?

Do they work well?

Yanko Tire on Falcon Drive in Coquitlam, one block off the Barnet Highway.

No. This is a bandaid, not a repair. It is designed to get you to a tire store, but you already have a run flat, so it is redundant.

We got a nail in the RFT on our 2008 with 1200 kms on it. BMW said it had to be replaced. I didn't have the warranty and the tire wasn't in stock. I took it to a tire shop and they repaired it for me. I couldn't believe that BMW would suggest throwing a brand new tire in the garbage dump. Seems a little unfriendly to the environment in my mind. Just my two cents worth.:dunno:

BMW Mindset => Sell to customer = more profit.

I got the same curt response from the service rep, "we don't repair RFTs" because we like to fleece our customers for every penny. BTW, I also read that they charge $350 US for a single new tire, whereas the runflats are available on tirerack for $220.

I have such a kit (Slime) even though I have runflats, as if I can stop the leak and reflate, I do not have to worry about ruining the runflat by driving too far or too fast. I figure the runflat feature gets me to a convenient and safe place to use the Slime, and the Slime gets me to the tire store of my choice without damaging the tire.

The only concern that I have with the sealant kits is that users may decide that they constitute a repair, and continue to drive on them. Bad plan.

As a belt and braces approach, I understand carrying either a sealant kit or a portable 12 v compressor. A compressor by itself would be an alternative to the sealant, unless it is a very fast leak.

My back up to the runflats is a cell phone. Back before the advent of cell phones, I never carried two spare tires except for extended off road trips.

Going to the dealer to get a tire repaired is equivalent to going to a dealer to fill up with fuel. While it may be possible, they aren't expecting you to come there, they aren't equipped to meet your needs, and there are many more suitable places to go.
