Tire Puncture - Run Flats
I just got a tire puncture :angryfire :( and have the run flats but don't have the tire warranty, can these run flats be repaired? Any experiences out there? How much did it cost?
I can see a screw stuck in the tire, haven't removed it yet, should I take it out before driving it to the tire shop or should I leave it in there? Thanks |
I've had a couple repaired. You should only do this if you know for sure that you have not subjected your tyre to overheating through driving at much reduced pressure. Leave the screw in it makes it easier to identify the area of dame and may actually be slowing the rate of escape.
You may have a challenge in getting a shop to repair as BMW have issued instructions not to repair their RFT tyres. Interestingly, a Mercedes with the same tyres would be permitted to be fixed - go figure! |
I've had my RFT repaired by my BMW dealer in the past... have used it after that for another 40k km without any problems

Had an RFT repaired at a Goodyear dealer in December. He was certified to repair RFTs and showed me the RFT repair kit, charged about $45. No air loss since. Culprit was a nail.

I have repaired my Dunlop RFT myself with the 'worm kits' you can buy in the states never had any problems after....

Certainly can be repaired.
I would encourage you to get a spare though. I have a spare that I log around for long trips. |

You can definitely have them repaired, out here in So Africa, we have the crappiest potholes that mankind could have & all sorts of crap on some roads, & yes they repair all makes of RFT'S here.
So it has to be possible for you. |
Thanks folks for the replies, will head out to a tire shop shortly. Anyone in the US contacted the dealer for RFT repair? I have heard stories about BMW dealers refusing to repair RFTs and logging it in their records as a possible cause for denying warranty? I called the local $tealer and the service guy mentioned they don't repair RFTs :angryfire
There is a website with people cr&##$ about BMW RFTs http://www.bmwrunflattire.com/ and Edmunds Blog and Edmunds Discussion Forum |
