The Verdict

So the dealer told me it was the urea injection pump that needed to be replaced. At this point, it will take a couple days to get the part and then hopefully have this problem behind us.

Diesel in the US is a lot dirtier than in Europe. Sounds like bad fuel to me. Try a different petrol station I'd say.

I got my 2009 3.0i early March, had to take to dealer twice for the same "check engine" light. Second time I was told there was an update for the car. Last visit was 8 days ago, so far so good. I only use premium Shell gasoline, don't think it was the problem.
I guess it's not a diesel problem.

Your 3.0si's engine has nothing in common with the diesel engine the other posters in this thread have.

I understand that these are different engines. I was talking about "check engine" that was related to a problem with gas cap, not to a real engine problem.

That has changed, or is the process of changing, due to new EPA laws in the US. I'm sure one of the 'locals' would know the details. Sulphur content is the big issue I believe.

I never has any issue with the North American Diesel fuel.
It is pretty clean compared to year ago, it is Ultra Low Sulfur (15ppm).
This meets California's very strict emission regulations with the help of the Adblue and diesel fiters.

I heard Diesel fuel in UK/Europe is 50ppm sulfur content.
