Is next gen iDrive faster? Especially for the back up camera?
For starters, did the next generation of iDrive make it into the X5 yet?
If so, does anyone know if it loads up faster? If so, does the back up camera get displayed faster? I really hate how long the current one loads up. Waiting for the back up camera is a pain! I know a work-around is to unlock the car doors while I'm farther away from the car. But that really defeats "comfort access". |

i only played with the new iDrive at the dealership for a few minutes, but everything about it seemed faster, including the backup camera. After test driving the 30i and 35d and then playing with the new iDrive in the 3 and 5 series, i decided to wait until Sept. The new iDrive appears to me, who is not currently a BMW owner, to be far superior.

mtech8,
I dislike the quality of the back-up camera but I agree with you that the current one takes too long to start up. I'm typically finished backing up (whether it's out of my driveway or a parking spot) before the back-up camera even kicks in! This seems like it should be a software fix by BMW... Actually, I'll write to them on this. |
I can confirm that the new iDrive on the F01 7 Series is miles faster in all situations including the engagement of the rear-view camera when hitting reverse.

Thanks for the input.
Definitely gonna trade in soon. I doubt BMW will spend the money to have their software programmers create an update for us. |
