Mine has just magically jumped from "in the paint shop" to "at preparation center" within 24 hours, apparently never having gone through "awaiting transport" or "en route."

Is the "preparation center" for the X5 the local dealer?

UPDATE:

OK, this seems a bit odd. The info above was from the web site. I just called the phone number to see what it says, and it says it is in the paint shop with a completion date of Oct 13 (Yesterday).

Guess I'll just wait for the dealer to call in the next couple of weeks and tell me it's actually here!

The "awaiting transport" and "en route" designations are for non US deliveries (i.e. "waiting on a boat" and "on the high seas". AFAIK the "Preparation Center" is after it gets off the boat.

Of course, the early X5 2010s have a new status which BMW NA has held close to its corporate chest: "Built but in EPA limbo" :)

Edit: after checking back on how our 2009 35d build went...
'In the case of X5's etc. manufactured at the BMW SC Factory the "Prep Center" is on the premises. So as I suggested earlier, any BMW produced at the SC factory which is headed to a dealer in the continental US will skip #2 and #3 status' (Awaiting Transport and En Route) that cover the progress during longer trans-Atlantic shipments.'

How long does it typically take to go from status 112 - production pack until you get a build date ?

"Built but in EPA limbo?"

What's the code for that, "666?"

OK. Now tell him about the Italian pastries and the short skirt you once described as a way to speed up the build/delivery process :)

FWIW guys they didn't work for me.

I am also in the EPA limbo status. Was told this would be resolved as early as middle of this week. No word from dealer so it seems they still isn't resolved.

the lack of information from BMW about the EPA status is very concerning, even if a small issue, as it is holding up delivery dates - I thought I was picking up the car in early October and now it has slid to early November.

I think we need a FAQ that shows the order of all build stages and codes (USA and International)...

I read a thread on this site that regarding deliveries to Canada - ~20 days until it's actually ready for pickup at the dealership...:yikes:

It's not a FAQ but this thread may enlighten (or a least mildly distract) you while you wait for your X5 to get built and delivered. Note: the names have been changed to protect the guilty.
