2010 35d allocation / eco credit availability?
Placed an order for a 2010 35d with a dealer on 10/10. Apparently the order is in but without allocation at this time. Does anyone know when I might expect to get a production number?
Does the fact that I've placed an order before 11/2 automatically qualify me for the eco-credit, or does the car need to be in production before then to qualify? If the car doesn't qualify for the $4500 eco credit I won't be buying it... so I'm hoping the order is sufficient OR I get a production number in the next 2 weeks. |

Really appreciate the response jaax3. Thanks. Dealer was not quite so forthcoming. They might be poorly informed. Hope they're not playing games.

You're welcome. Most CAs are poorly informed, and some do play games. There is a wealth of information on this site and others. Use it to your advantage.
Again, congrats and welcome! |

Not sure what BMW means by "Final Purchase." I suspect that BMW will likely honor all orders before 11/2; however, a few weeks ago my sales guy told me that BMW said: (a) all orders taken before 8/31 would be honored, and (b) after 8/31, the dealer would have to have not just an order, but a vehicle allocation, or get one from another dealer, to get the eco credit. So, if that is true, the question is if your dealer has an allocation, or had gotten an allocation from another dealer. Of course, that may have all changed, as BMW lately seems to be changing their minds a lot, e.g., originally the eco credit only applied to 2009 models in stock, then BMW changed it to 2010 models ordered by 8/31, then they extended it to 11/2. |
Not so sure about eco credit
I ordered my Xd on 9-14.....at that time, my CA indicated that the eco credit was available thru 11-2 orders sold/invoiced. I have a production number, but no scheduled date yet, and I doubt I'll make the 11-2 deadline.
I plan on PCD delivery, so if I'm able to get production by the last week of October, I may be able to close the deal on 11-2, as long as the dealer has received the invoice paperwork from BMW. I can't imagine that BMW would accept a payment from a dealer for a car not yet built or invoiced and qualify for the credit. There were some posts about orders placed before 8/31 would qualify for eco credit, but I've heard nothing about orders place before 11/2 as the cutoff......... |
right, given the lack of 35d allocations chasing the $4500 credit BMW could expect a very high percentage of their 'unallocated' orders to be cancelled if they don't follow through...
would make it difficult to plan production. I'll let everyone know when I learn more... |
My CA confirmed me when I placed the order that I'd get eco credit.
I signed on a paper which showed my final price with eco-credit. I'm seeing it as a contract between me and my dealer to sell that vehicle to me for that price. Infact I see 'Sold with Deposit' on my Online order form. Probably it's the same with everyone. BTW mine is still waiting for production with no scheduled date. |

I agree, but you might want to check the fine print on anything you/they signed... I've found they typically have a lot of disclaimers and escape clauses for the dealer. The good thing is that the dealer also wants you to get the eco credit, as it doesn't cost him anything, so this is one case where the dealer's interests almost certainly match yours, and he'll be an active advocate to make sure it's there for you. But it may be a moot point in any case, as I give it a 25% chance they will again extend the eco credit to the end of the year. The BMW diesel sales in the US have been very disappointing up until they offered the eco credit. BMW, if they are smart, might keep it going so that they can get a lot of diesels out there and get some good word of mouth. Maybe they'll try to hide the discount by changing it into a free Premium Package plus $1,000 or something after 11/2, or some other mostly equivalent incentive. |
