2010 models stuck at the ports????
Hello all,
I am waiting on my 2010 x5 4.8 for little more than a month. Finally, the production is finished and she is waiting for the local transportation to the dealer. However, she has been stuck at the port, Bayonne, NJ, for a week now since 10/8/09. I talked with my sales person today and he said all the 2010 models are held at the port for some reason. None of 2010 models, not just x5, is released from the port yet. Also, more than 50 cars are stuck at the port from this dealer according to my sales person. Do you guys have any ideas what is going on at the port? |
I was just at the ports last week, in fact, talking with the carrier for BMW, Hyundai, Kia and Ford (I sold them two forklifts for their ship.) No issues according to them. The ports seemed business as usual.

Why would they be at the port if they come up via truck from the plant? Is it a staging area?

I do believe they go to the BMW Prep center near the ports (at the ports maybe) first before heading to the dealer. However, according to Liberty Maritime (ship carrier for aforementioned autos) does take BMW's from Spartanburg to other areas within the USA (maybe not all the time - :dunno:) as well as other countries in the world.

I am in the marine industry and this is still correct. The teamsters want everything to go via road/rail. |
When I talked to my sales person, my car is at the BMW Prep center in Bayonne, NJ. So I called BMW NA to make sure the procedure of delivery. They said the car could be shipped via train or truck to the BMW Prep center near the Spartanburg factory, or the Prep center near the ports which is Bayonne, NJ for me. Also, they said the sale departments will know better than BMW NA about the progress of delivery after the cars leave the factory. According to them, all the 2010 models will be released late October, not a specific date.
I guess I am just waiting for an approval from the prep center to be released to the dealer. |

Go to the BMW SC Factory site for an aerial view of the factory, and more info. Funf Dreisig |
