I think it's supposed to have an almost instant heating times for the glow plugs, but maybe with really cold temps it takes more time... Maybe try turning the key on, waiting about 10 seconds then trying to start it... see if it starts normally with the first button push then. Worth a try.

Any chance at all, no matter how small, that someone filled it with a small bit of gasoline by accident?
Only a few things could be causing this: Bad fuel pump Bad Electrical (somewhere) Low charge on the battery (outside chance) Gasoline mixed with the diesel (maybe an error on the part of the dealer?) Take it in, there's little you'll be able to repair on your own, at this point. |

There has been speculation that the 35d has glo plugs and that they are activated every time you open the driver's door. The facts are that you can hear a high pitch sound every time you open the driver's door. This sound is accompanied with a significant drop in voltage which goes away as soon as the sound stops (a minute or so). This may or may not be associated with glo plugs. But I would check to see if you can hear the high pitch sound just in case. Funf Dreisig Edit: My bad :( Apparently you can get a delay if the engine is cold enough. |
Something wrong. Mine starts (ie starter engages instantly) when I press the button.

So I think sometimes you can get a little delay. |
Mine starts instantly. Westlake Village, CA is not a cold place by any definition. You need to get it fixed by the dealer.

Yes, this has happened to me. I also have the comfort access. I know right away whether it's going to start for me or not by the way the brake feels when I put my foot on it. If it's hard, it won't start at first when I push the button. If the brake gives a little right off, then it will start immediately. It drove me crazy at first. Now, if the brake feels hard, I just push it in harder, then it seems to start. Don't know what's happening, but that's what I'm doing for now. Keep us posted if you discover anything. I'm not sure, either, if it has something to do with whether the key was already in the car for awhile before I get in. Sometimes I leave it in there while parked in the garage.

We've had temps of -10 this year and my d has always started instantly.
