The X was a champ in the snow
Our first snow storm this year is the biggest for quite some time and lucky for me I have the X for this one.
There is a 45 degree incline hill on a major road to get home and several cars were stuck including a few SUV and minivans. The X saw the road completely blocked, turned to me, gave me a wink and took control. She hopped the curb, drove over a mound of snow and immediately punched the gas and passed a procession of other vehicles. She immediately raced up the incline and gave a salute to the cars below. That feeling alone was worth the price of the X. I patted her on the dashboard for a job well done. |
ohh i feel you 100% here. my X was awesome today. going up huge hills, through snow drifts and passing those stupid Hyundai SUVs getting stuck. love it

did u have snow tires on? with my stock all seasons i get nervous with the steering a little in approx 5 inches of snow going 60mph.

sounds like fun, winter tires? I'm itching to try my staggered 20s (all-season) tomorrow. Last year I had only tried a few inches. If it can handle a foot, then I'll know for sure it can do pretty much anything.
Kinda scared that I can't control other cars on the road though. ;) |

Nice Job  |
What tires are you running? My 02 X5 without X Drive would get stuck in deep snow in the driveway where my Grand Cherokee churned right through. I expect much better with the 04 X Drive I have now. I am in the Buckeye Nation so I'll have plenty of opportunity to find out.

I actually went out and bought new tires but wanted to test the stocks to see what they can handle so I still have the stock Bridgestone Duelers on with less than 6 thousand miles of wear. No problems at all on a 45 degree incline with about 8 inches of snow unshoveled. It didn't even slip much going about 35-45 mph. I think the DSC light flashed maybe twice for a second. I will say the snow was powdery and I don't think the ground was icy.
I am now not sure if I really need to change the tires other than if the duelers have some considerable wear on them. |
My x5, Leeroy, will not go in the snow. 3 season tires, runflat, piece of crap dunlop x xport maxx. Cant get them below 32 degrees. Tell me why a 4 wheel drive comes with 3 season tires, sold in the US? chucker
