Halo Lighting Debacle

I ordered a set of H8 Xenesis lamps from Bimmian for the halo lights on my X5.

They fit so poorly that they would wiggle loose and eventually drop out.

After several back and forth emails with them, and a video to prove the terrible fit, they finally agreed to take them back. They said that they have a no return policy on installed lamps, so after they saw the video of how poorly they fit, I was granted a return authorisation number.

I do not recommend these lamps at all due to the very poor fit. They actually tried to blame the vehicle for the poor fit and not the bulbs!

If you want to see the short video of them installed, please follow this link:

On a side note. I am not sure of the quality of the Xenesis bulbs. A friend purchased 2 sets of H7 lamps, and after only 2 weeks, one low beam lamp has already burnt out. They do offer lifetime burnout guarantee, but you have to pay the postage to get them.

I don't recommend Bimmian full stop.

I do apologize for the problems you experienced, Kirkinner.

To our defence, I have tested the bulbs in my X5 and the fitment seems fine. I did not experience the same fitment as you did.

The Xensis bulbs come with a lifetime warranty. We wouldn't put a warranty on a product that we would have to replace every other week. We would rather put a warranty on a good quality product that we have confidence in that will last a couple years before needing to be replaced. Otherwise, if we were replacing bulbs every other day for customers, we would have to raise the price of the bulbs to justify giving the warranty or take the warranty off completely. Just my opinion.

We also offer the LED halo upgrade that is specifically meant to upgrade your halos, rather than just a generic bulb replacement. If you are concerned about the fitment, this would probably be the best way to go.

Again, I apologize for your experience. If there is anything I can do to assist you in the future, please do not hestiate to contact me.

Jamesboags,

If there is anything I can help you with as well, you can email me at [email protected]. Thanks.

Please post the evidence of the "fine" fit. I doubt that the X5 is to blame for a poor fitting lamp. I think readers would appreciate seeing a picture of the actual lamp before install and installed. A video such as I have provided would be helpful as well. Thanks Steve@Bimmian for your concern, I look forward to seeing the results of your fit test.

Steve@Bimmian 02-01-2010 06:20 PM

Kirkinner,

Will provide at my earliest convenience. Thanks.

Retired Profile 02-01-2010 06:21 PM

Cheers - we are all looking forward to it.

Retired Profile 02-04-2010 10:33 AM

...well, it looks like the Bimmian guy may not be able to provide us with a video and pictures of how well his Xenesis H8 bulbs fit in their E70 X5.

I think that we can determine from my video, that there is likely a fit issue.

Steve@Bimmian 02-04-2010 11:38 AM

The video that I said I would provide, as I stated in our previous email correspondence, was going to be taken on my own time (since it is my personal vehicle that I installed the bulbs on). Also, as I stated in my previous message, I would post the video at my earliest convenience. Thanks.

No urgency whatesover on my part (although members would like to see I'm sure)...after all, I am not in the aftermarket light business.

I can tell you though, it takes a few minutes to do.

Good luck and thanks.

Retired Profile 02-06-2010 04:24 PM

Hmmm, I don't think that the H8 lamps from Bimmian fit very well, at least the current inventory anyway. Perhaps we will see pictures and a video of the fit once a new batch comes in.

I hope that this does get sorted, because on a positive note, the whiteness and the brightness of the lamps was quite good, and a lot cheaper than going LED.

jamesboags 02-07-2010 09:26 PM

Get some Hoens .. they are really good !!!!

Retired Profile 02-07-2010 11:50 PM

Do they make and H8 lamp?

Retired Profile 02-07-2010 11:57 PM

Answered my own question:

Hoen high performance halogen

Yes indeed!

Retired Profile 02-11-2010 02:10 PM

Well, I think it is fair to assume that we will likely never see the video and pics of the Bimmian Xenesis H8 halo lamps fitting properly as promised. I had hoped to see that perhaps the lamps I got were unique in the fact that they fit poorly.

On that note, I will be looking at other non-LED, H8 lamp options.

GP Thunder!

Christiaan 02-20-2010 11:16 AM

incredible.. these vendors really are something...

stockguru 02-20-2010 12:01 PM

Must be either a month so busy there just isn't 5 minutes to spare or they are full of crap. Very disappointing. Thanks for posting and keeping us aware of the issue.

Noodle555 02-20-2010 12:44 PM

I thought the comment that he would do it at "his convenience" was rather arrogant for a person looking to promote sales.

My Hoens fit great!

yup, they are bright (see my sig pic) and they fit perfectly in 2 seconds. Oh and of course you can't beat the price.

davidy1688 02-20-2010 01:54 PM

I am using the GP Thunder for over 1 year, and no issues so far....good product!

How many pairs do you need I see that it comes with 2 bulbs..do you need to order one or two sets for the angel eyes?

EdmBimmer 02-21-2010 01:22 PM

You only need 2 bulbs, one for each side.

davidy1688 02-21-2010 01:24 PM

Yeah, sc88 is right.

Steve@Bimmian 02-22-2010 11:29 AM

Hi Guys,

I didn't mean for my comments to seem arrogant. I just meant that between my family and personal life, to do an install and fitment video isn't exactly easy to do. I told Kirkinner that I would take the video on my own personal time at it was my personal vehicle. Also, coming up with garage space is a little difficult as the weather isn't cooperating up here and nightfall is upon us awfully quick. Will get the video and post it up by the end of the week. Thanks for your patience guys.

Retired Profile 02-22-2010 12:13 PM

Hmmm....I have a family, job, busy life too...yet I was able to make the video. No problem, it is not an important issue, but one that would help members decide on an appropriate bulb. It seems that GP Thunder would be the clear choice anyway.

js_avery 04-28-2010 09:21 PM

Wheres the video? vapor ware

Retired Profile 05-04-2010 01:16 PM

Yeah, it is now...I deleted it unfortunately. It is old news now, however I still wouldn't buy a thing from Bimmian. The bulbs did not fit and they were very loose in the socket. The chap from Bimmian said he would install in an X5 and show us how great they fit. He never did post anything and I suspect he never will. If I happen to come across the video I shot, I will post it again.

Own goal I'm afraid. Promise and fail to deliver. Your credibility as a business is severely compromised and I'm sure you have lost a few customers here. Bulbs may fit, you may be busy, weather may be crap, and the moon may not be in the correct alignment. To customers all they see are excuses and a failure to deliver. A good business is one that keeps their word and a great one goes just that little extra mile.

I for one am glad to have been forewarned.

Retired Profile 07-17-2010 04:09 PM

Just thought I would check and see if Bimmian finally posted the video of bulb fit...they have not. Obviously the bulbs do not fit or they would have posted the video by now.

DawgBone 07-20-2010 04:00 PM

I bought some chrome painted amber bulbs from Bimmian several months ago for my truck... The idiots sent them in an envelope!!!!

Go figure 2 of the 4 sets I ordered were busted... And one set burnt out on me within a week...

After contacting Stephen at Bimmian about the issue, he told me to ship them back(on my own dime) for a return.... I told him I wasn't going to pay for shipping, and especially if they are just going to turn around and ship the new ones in an envolope again...

The best he could offer me was store-credit..... blah....

I took the hit, and just reassured myself that I'll never buy another product from them again.

Retired Profile 07-27-2010 09:10 AM

Same thing happened to a friend of mine that bought a couple pairs of their poor quality bulbs. They expected him to send back the defective ones (he had for a week) at his expense, etc.

I would not recommend Bimmian as a place to buy anything.

m32 08-07-2010 11:00 PM

Can someone help me pick which bulb and where I can buy the GP thunders? Thanks

Edwin
