iPhone/USB connector problems in 2010 35d

OK, I'm stumped and feel like an idiot, I must be missing something.

My iphone 3GS worked fine with my 2008 X5. I purchased the adapter on Amazon to allow it to charge with the included BMW iPod cable.

Now on my 2010 it doesn't work at all. With or without the adapter the iPhone says that it is not charging. And the iDrive system isn't recognizing the iPhone at all.

What am I missing?

I have heard that there is an updated cable for the iPhone 3GS vice earlier iphones that allows the 3GS to charge. I'll bet you did not get the latest stuff from eBay.

The original y-cable works - just ignore the message - but might not charge your phone. Actually it may charge it if you keep connectng and disconnecting a few times. It's simply unreliable. I gave up on that because I found the hard drive a better solution for my music. If you need to charge the phone, just use the original iPhone USB cord instead.

Agreed - found mine unreliable when connecting my iPhone.

The only "reliable" combination that I've found is using my iPod with it's OEM USB adapter. Now I just leave it console...and never take the iPhone out of my pocket.

Have you ever asked your SA about it? I may email mine and ask him if he could check into it.

I did and they tried different cables with similar results. The issue isn't entirely bmws fault. Apple has switched the charging voltage. Not worth my time To spend more time on it but if someone finds a solution, I sure would appreciate a post.

Went in today and got a different cable. Tried the iPod option, worked great and it now charges. All is good.

Thanks to my SA as usual, great guy.

Do you happen to have a part # for that?

61120440796 which is the latest version of the cable. Very expensive from BMW, $51 wholesale, dealer wanted $76
