Here in Newport:

regular- $3.039
plus- $3.139
premium $3.259
Diesel- $3.059

Makes it very beneficial to me.

40d is due for Aussie release (probably elsewhere as well) mid year. Check the Australian X5 thread in the E70 forum. There you will find an official press release from BMW Australia on the pending update. For Australia there's a re-specced 30d, the 40d replaces the 35d, the 35i replaces the 30i and the 50i replaces the 48i.

Not sure the U.S. is going to get the 40d?

I understand that it's not for the US.

US is not getting the 40d. The diesel demand in US has not been great for BMW to spend money to legalize the 40d for US. Probably the 45d if it comes next year.

I am not trading in my oil burner! I think that adding 35i BMW created a compelling option to diesel, which 30i was not. However it still lacks fuel efficiency of the diesel and torque. Never thought I'd say that, I guess I am getting older, but I don't feel I need more power in a car like X5. Plenty of torque and acceleration for city driving and adequate pick up at highway speeds. I don't have anything to tow, so that could be a reason for bigger diesel. And for pure exhilaration I will get a small sports car when I have enough free time to actually take it out to the track. Not with two toddlers at home!
Did I mention that this is the only car my wife said she actually loved? And that after complaining about an 3-series, Acura RDX, and an E-class. I know I was taking a gamble with the diesel, but figured that if she is going to complain anyway, might as well get a car I like!
