Who will (would) trade their 35d for 50i?

Just interested in who would make the switch ?

I really like turbo's and torque ..hence the reason I got the 35d over the 4.8i. In Australia our 35d's are pushing 210kw and 580Nm ..I think they are pepped up a little more than US versions (diesel quality?) ...

anyway ..now that 50i seems around the corner wondering if anybody (particulalry Aus owners) will look to switch?

Stats seem to say that it will be the same engine as X6 50i ..which from stats should put it around 300kw / 600Nm and a 0-100km/hr (0-62mph) of around 5.5 secs (compared to 7.0 for 35d right now in Aus) ..now that would be fun ....

No way man, love my oil burner.

No I wouldn't change.

I have had 4.8 X5s before and the diesel is a much better match for the car if you are using it as a real SUV (rather than a pose mobile)

Not a chance! I love the high performance coupled with a little help for mother nature. I would swap it with an x5 that ran on biodiesel but that is not currently an option.

The reason I got an X5 was for the diesel and its fuel economy I would never switch.

When the tri-turbo 45d comes next year, will you trade again?

jaaX3 02-06-2010 05:07 PM

Never! :D

The tri-turbo is fake until it's announced! jk LeMans; thanks for all of your inside info, but you know how BMW changes their mind daily.

That is true but BMW did not federalize 40d in US for a reason, so its not coming here. If the diesel BMW sales pickup in US then it will come to US otherwise it will be a dream.

Come on people lets buy diesel BMW. $4500 credit on 2011 LCI X5 35d if you order by 3/1

I had a loan of an X6 50i for a week a while back. Loved the performance and managed (just) not to lose my licence. Trouble was that it used 17.9 litres/100km. The same driving regime sees my E53 3.0d use 8.6 litres/100km. I would be probably more tempted by the 35i engine if I was to go back to petrol power.

Same here, whilst am very tempted by the 50i and infact when I purchased our 35d I was also contemplating the 48i or X5M. I needed 7 seats so I had to give up the idea of the M very quickly. Then it was the V8 vs TT diesel. Loved the sound of the V8 but the diesel sounded quite good too from the inside. And the number of options I have added to the car, pricing was almost on par. It all came down to fuel consumption, whilst the cost of ful is not of great concern, it was the subconscious thought having to do our bit for the environment that made me do the switch.
