It's GREAT to continue to hear this from everyone. I know diesels have come a long (HUGE) way, but it is still a difficult concept to assimilate in that they can actually 'perform' as opposed to 'get by'.

In Aus we are getting 40d option !
 

and that thing will have 0-60 in around 6.4sec ... just a fraction of a sec slower than current 4.8i ..but it will have 600nM of torque and 225kw on tap ... therefore real world in-motion performance will be somewhere between the current 4.8 and new 50i I suspect .. then again we will pay something like $135k AUD (which is about $120k USD in todays exchange rate) to get one on the road :wow:

you guys are SOO lucky with pricing !!! If I was in the US I'd have the X5M in a flash, with change left for secondhand Boxster I suspect ...:yikes:

4.0 diesel: Can't figure out why we didn't get that engine??

you guys don't know how lucky you are,in us.here in europe you can't get basic 3.0d for that money(80000$).for the car with some extras(sport pkg,leather seats,xenons,navi,metallic) we must pay over 100.000 euros,what is around 140.000$.and I'm speaking of 3.0d,cheapest x5.

You don't understand exchange rates. It's not a direct swap on car prices.

@inlacal - you spent $1500 on gas in a year and you're buying an $80k vehicle? By my math that's not even 30 tanks of gas in a year... kind of a waste of money isn't it?

Epacy .. just talking about relative purchasing power parity (PPP) and exchange rates here (i.e. the BIG MAC thinking on relative purchase power as per OECD)

e.g.

Median Household income US (USD) = $55k, X5 35d fully loaded price $80k USD

Median Household income Australia (in USD) = $50k, X5 35d fully loaded price $120k USD





So just suggesting ..on a comparitive basis, that you guys have it VERY good (we have to sacrifice much more of each earned dollar to drive a BMW)


Perhaps another scenario to help explain how good you have it .. if you decided to move to Australia, you'd need to bring around $170k of your USD to buy that blue M3 you have sticking out of the garage .. ouch .. only 5 years ago you would have only needed about $95k USD. So exchange rates play a role as well as other factors such as luxury taxes on cars, volume market discounting, hedging of USD, greedy profit margin dealers in Aus etc etc ..but what's interesting is that prices for BMW cars have remained high here despite an almost doubling of exhange rate based purchase power ..:( No wonder BMW Australia has been one of the best profit margin performers gloablly .. esp during GFC where our economy just hit a small speed bump whilst US and Europe tanked really badly ...

Well .. at least our Amazon book orders cost half as much now :D

A case can be made that anything that you do not 'need' is a waste. So, in that vein, this is a waste. Especially since I will only be keeping it for two to three years...This is a 'want'.
