There should be via iDrive. There is on our 2010. Read the manual.

Not in a 2008.

Unfortunately, that's correct. I hate the LOUD beeping but I don't want to turn it off as it might save a kid or a pet one day....

Page 83 of the owner's manual for a 2008 X5 describes how to adjust the PDC volume. It is listed as an optional item (*).

Can anyone report having adjusted the volume of the PDC or the Gong, so that it is actually quiet in comparison typical human conversation?

FWIW the E70 X5 manuals I've read, indicate that the iDrive volume adjustment for the PDC and Gong is "in comparison to entertainment sound output". IOW it is NOT an absolute volume adjustment; it is a relative volume adjustment. And in my experience, even after setting it to the lowest volume available and having the "entertainment sound output" SILENT, it is still annoyingly LOUD :(

Very interesting. I've never noticed that screen before on my 2008 X5. It says "On vehicles equipped with a single drive..." I would guess it's not on X5's with DVD changers like mine (but I'm going to have to check).

I wish it had a setting to automatically turn off the PDC immediately after one started driving forward (instead of having to drive 100+ feet for it to turn off)...

I asked about this on this board prior to ordering our X5 last summer. IIRC the reference to "single drive" has to do with NAV. IOW X5s "equipped with a single drive" do NOT have NAV. The lack of reasonable PDC volume adjustment contributed to our not ordering the Tech package, even though we really wanted the rear view camera.

FWIW since our X5 does not have NAV, we can adjust the volume of the seat belt gong. BUT as I reported in my previous post, even at the lowest settings the gong is still annoyingly loud.
