That's just it - there is no production number yet after 4 weeks.

This means that your dealer does not have a free production slot for your X. Each dealer is allocated a fixed number of production slots for each variant of BMWs - for X5s the slots are for 3.5i, 5.0i and 3.5d. He cant change the slot from 3.5i to 3.5d, but he can change configuration/option of each.

Push hard on the dealer to clear this up !

mine is a x5d. Completion date is today...and they expect it to ship to my dealer end of this week or early next week.

I have the opposite problem, looks like my X will be here too *soon*. I ordered early to ensure that I had it when my lease completes, first week of August - so my CA said that she put in an early July production. I found out today that production is complete and it's due in port July 3rd, probably at the dealer a few days later - so I have to sit and wait a whole month before picking her up, or eat a month with 2 payments (sigh)...

This must be it - thanks. They've indicated now that they are looking for more slots from BMW and have even tried to buy some from other dealers.

Hard to push too hard on the dealer when I have a $500 over invoice deal (not worth shopping around) and they're willing to give me a loaner to bridge the gap.

Four weeks to tell you that? You must really like that dealer. Regardless, they should have an idea on when their next slot is coming up.

Frustrating - I was ready to place my order on 5/20 (day after you) and dealer said to wait a week so it wouldn't be in hugely early. Now you pick up yours in a week and mine is still at least a month out (maybe longer). Sigh.

Finally got my production number so looks like it'll be 7-8 weeks from order to production for my 35d because of the dealer slot issue.

So which week/day is it going to production?

The production number isn't being accepted on bmwusa.com right now (and I'm travelling outside of the US so don't have access to the 800 line).
